Fellow Nigerians, How Do I Go About This Issue During This Corona Virus Epidemic by Nobody: 8:54am On Mar 25, 2020
Good morning guys,
I 'm a 300 level student of UNN, Nsukka Campus. The school has been on lockdown since the 23rd of March and it could go on for over a month due to the Corona virus issue. Students have been chased out from the school hostels too.
I stay in a lodge outside school and actually I m based in Lagos. Due to the way cases double daily in Lagos, I and my younger brother decided to stay back at Nsukka. Since Nsukka is very safe and quiet at this moment. On a normal, we rarely go out, so during this trying times, we won't actually go out unless we want to buy something.
Now the problem is that my dad is not ok with it. He wants us home immediately and has threatened not to send us feeding money if we don't comply. Travelling is not my problem, the only issue is coming in contact with an infected person in Lagos.
As of today, NCDC reported 46 confirmed cases, who knows , there might be hundreds of people having that virus with no symptoms and they will be passing it to other people unknowingly.
I don't want to risk contacting and passing these virus to my parents. They are middle aged and I heard it affects elderly people more. You all know how over-crowded Lagos can be plus I live at Badagry. I must v come in close contact with many people before reaching Badagry.
Please I need your advice. I m confused, I don't know what to do. I m even considering taking the risk to travel as I heavily depend on my parents for money and I m very broke right now.
Pls no insults, and I 'm sorry for the lengthy post. Thanks so much

Explain it like this to your dad. If he still doesn’t see reason with you, travel home. When you get to Lagos, self-isolate.

Don’t let hunger kill you before the virus o.

Ask them to prepare a room for you guys. Travel with a hoodie, face mask and glasses. Get strong ogogoro, pour it on wetwipes and keep as sanitizing wipe to wipe down your hands and any surface you come in direct contact with. Avoid touching your face with unsanitized hands.

When you arrive home, self isolate yourselves for 14 days. No direct contact with anyone. Your plates, spoons and cups must be sanitizer after each use. Your clothes esp those you travelled in must be sanitizer too. Good luck.

The best thing is to adhere to your dad's instruction and leave Nsukka for Lagos. When you get there you can always stay Indoor and isolate yourself that's all.

Nigeria is a nation of almost 200m people. Less than 50 of these people have Corona, now as a student sit down and calculate the percentage and what is the probability of you meeting one of these 50 infected persons out of 200m.
Your fears are stupid and unfounded. The school environment is deserted now and quiet. You are not safe,it bad guys come to your house to rob and rape you,who will hear your scream? Go home now, unless there is a guy you are with that is pounding you good, which you know you won't have access to when you back to your parents.

You'll be fine.

The earlier you get to lagos the better.

Badagry is even safer.

I v told you my reasons for staying back so why being up senseless assumptions?. My lodge is very safe and has security. I stay in the most safest area outside school.
I don't make my claims based on NCDC figures. Those figures are based on those who they luckily found to have had the virus. About 4k people that came in contact with these infected persons are yet to be found and most of them would be based in of Eko. A lot of peopleh this virus and may even think it might be malaria and co.
Just stay put wherever u are and stay safe pls
