When you talk about the Biafra war of 1967,many people only know Ojukwu.ojukwu was popular because he was the commander of Biafra army and his father was the financial power house of Biafra.infact ojukwu declared the war.

But there was this handsome young man that I cherish his charisma very much,he was the second commander of Biafra army,he was resolute till the end,he was very brave and courageous young man,he is the person of GEN.PHILIP EFFIONG.

This young man was fearless, courageous, focus and determined that if the war is going to end,it is going to end on Biafra victory,he is a very good and examplary leader, even when the battle became fierce that the commander Ojukwu ran to ivory coast he still stand tall and was maintaining the momentum with his boys.he triggered the beast in them and that why the refused to surrender at first when the call came.

He was the one that ended the war when he sees that the people are dying and no support and his president is no where to be found,so he surrendered and that ended the Biafra war.

There is one remarkable thing that this young did that made him the real hero of Biafra,he live and died a rebel and a Biafran soldier, and was buried with the Biafran flag.unlike ojukwu who later got assimilated into Nigerian army, and was buried by Nigeria government with Nigerian flag.

All the Biafran medals for Leadership should be shared between Effiong and Awolowo.

Awo for devising a safety-net to quickly halt the calamity and stop the war from progressing much longer than necessary...very strategic and smart!

Effiong for standing by what he believed in till the end and surrendering at a point when further continuance of hostility could have produced further suffering and deaths to the already damaged spirits and physically weak population in Biafra. His contributions have not been accurately and properly conceptualized, credited and rewarded. He deserves prominence in Biafra than Ojukwu.

We do not disagree but Gowon and his de facto 'VP' Awolowo were the villains, one is dead with self-poisoning while the other is still running around organizing 'prayerfests' to atone for his sins while his village in the middlebelt is burnt to the ground by the fulanis he served.

General Philip Effiong was a great man. He was the last president of Biafra. He fought for Biafra and had to take on the unenviable role of presiding over its surrender.

Effiong was a freedom fighter

i totally agree with this write-up.

Efiong was a very brave man and a hero.
Before appending your signature in agreement to any document, scrutinize it properly to avoid regrets. Do you agree that Ojukwu declared the war as written by OP in the first paragraph?

Oga you know absolutely nothing.

Ojukwu never declared any war. He only asked the murders who were busy murdering his people in cold blood to let his people go!

your fulani slave fathers and their fulani masters committed heinous blood crimes that will hunt them and their great grand children even to the 13th generation.

we don't really need this now but as per who declare war, read your history book and find out who fire the first gun shot on July 6, 1967

Nwanna, go and read carefully the OPs post that you agreed to in 100%. Take note of the last sentence of the first paragraph. You can apologise thereafter. Udo.
NB: The intent of the whole post is hinged on that particular sentence.

Afonja divisive things at it again. Other threads, Ibibio is not Biafra. Now they accept Ibibio is Biafra only because they want to use it to divide Igbos and Ibibios by piting Ojukwu and Effiong. Umu ekwesu!

Gen. Effiong will laugh you off the forum because you have shown the symptom of dunce who knows next to nothing about tactical withdrawal in warfare. The day Ojukwu left Biafra, Gen. Effiong stood at Uli air strip to wave farewell to Ojukwu who left with certain members of Effiong's family.

If Kanu was a Catholic ibo and not a shiite ibo, he would have made alot more impact.
