It should be in all the 36 States and State like Lagos should have not less than 10 centres. Unless the monies donated are audio monies, it should be enough to procure test facilities and even build new isolation centres within days. I think we should start stoning our leaders. They are not ashamed to embezzle monies meant to tackle this serious pandemic. May Coronavirus infect all our wicked leaders.

Nigeria is a shithole, politicians looting the economy going to abroad for their own medical care, doing nothing to improve our health care system they didn't foresee the future, that a day like this will come, imagine as big as Nigeria is its only in times like this we have only two laboratory to test Covid19 in a country of almost 300 million people too pathetic

Absolutely spot on. Nigeria had enough time to prepare but as usual, our people in govt were dilly dallying, travelling to London & Germany and jumping from one social function to another

You can...

The protocol thus far is that when a suspected case is reported, the NCDC sends someone to the home to take a sample...
Presumably, the NCDC (or its agents) simply do not chock the samples into their bags or an envelope to be DHL-ed to the labs.

Of course, if the person is already symptomatic, he/she is taken to a biosecurity (or an isolation) facility and tested there...
If such a person is confirmed as positive, they remain at the isolation center. Otherwise, they are released (eg, the woman in Enugu State).
>
The NCDC hardly even answer calls to their phones, people have written so many bad reviews due to the distateful encounter they had trying to reach them. Yet you expect them to routinely send sample swabsticks to people's home?

Get real bro, they are overwhelmed already, they should decentralize and publish partner labs and hospitals in every state where people can go and get their samples collected, for onward transportation under controlled mileu.

Assymptomatic and symptomatic patients should all be tested.

Where are the Lab Scientists and microbiologists that will work in these labs, when the Nigerian system has frustrated them to become Wig sellers and fashion designers?

I have suggested to the health minister on why there should be testing and isolation centres in each states. As at today all testing centres are located majorly in South west and Abuja. What happens to South east and the Northern regions?

Off what benefit is it to saving lives when isolation centres have only beds with no ventilators. Average time frame for patients on ventilator to recovery is 9 days. What is the Federal Govt doing to acquire more ventilators?

Nigeria still has time to suppress the spread and prepare for cases but the time is being wasted.
Brother, its unfortunate that ur suggestions aren't needed in a country like Nigeria. There was always enough time to prevent d present situation but despite calls to close d airports, d govt refused to act. If d govt couldn't take action on things that didn't cost money, is it ventilator that will cost money that d govt will act on? I don't think so. My prayer is that let d poor not suffer because of d bad leaders we have

Correct response! The remaining people left will learn sense and make sure we have technocrats in the political space of our nation.

Of course, ideally they all should be tested...
But Nigeria does not have the resources to do so (yet), so it accords PRIORITY to high-risk cases.

Meanwhile, NO nation on earth has been able to test all asymptomatic and symptomatic cases...
Not even the world’s richest ever nation is able to give a test to all who seek it (including symptomatic cases).

The NCDC is far from perfect...
But they have done a relatively SUPERB job thus far.

Obviously, they are overwhelmed with hundreds of calls suddenly pouring in...
And it’s not just expanding their call center capacity, but training so many new people so that they can dispense CORRECT info.

Nonetheless, they have been smart enough to DECENTRALIZE the emergency response...
By providing emergency response numbers in each of the 36 states (in addition to their main line and the national 112 number).

6 all over Nigeria?

Can they please stop posting that figure they said they have confirmed.

Nigeria do not know the number of people positive since there are no test centres.

Please, all these kits of 10 mins and 5 mins being discovered, can't our FG be negotiating aggressively that test run of the kits be done in Nigeria.

Since Buhari have absconded from duty, one of the 36 Presidents we have now can still do it.

God forbid the wave of death starts now, its over.

All those billions donated, what are they using it for?

Though Nigerians need food now, priority and undivided focus should be channelled massive testing of Nigerians.
Most of those fast test kits are still undergoing trial and not yet reliable for export.

Mind you, It’s not that easy setting up world class labs in a country that failed to invest in its health care system for decades. Most of the testing labs in the country belong to state governments and universities. Do you think NCDC are the ones setting up most of he LABS?
Google the history or ownership of most of the existing 6 labs and you will realize federal government has nothing to do with them.

In fact, the one in Osun State(which is perhaps the best in the country) belongs to a World Bank funded research center housed in a private university.

All of you are saying they’ve donated billions, how much is all these money in dollars? It’s not even up to 100million dollars yet. Setting up world class labs in all the states across the country will cost at least 500million dollars. I know of science labs at schools here in the US that are worth over 5billion dollars. That is way more than Nigeria’s total annual health and education budget. We need to address the root cause of underfunding of healthcare sector.

Thanks to the government
Really, appreciate them for their past or present failures right? okay...tell me just one thing we've gotten right (even @75%) in this country anyway, I'm not surprised, we are not one(9ja is a mixture of water, kerosene and stone) until our leaders are chosen on the basis of the best fit and not by zones, tribes, religion, political parties, blah blah blah then we can have something reasonable to appreciate.

If we are moving at this rate despite knowing abroad is not an option for them now then, what would have been d scenario if the latter is an option? O.Y.O
May God help us all sha

Wow.. This is revealing.

Thanks a lot for the clarifications but I want to ask.

Should an emergency lab for this covid 19 gulp such amount?

I was thinking since we have no existing healthcare system in Nigeria as you people do over in the States, focus on covid 19 virus test should just be for it for the time being.

Or cant it be done that way.

A test lab in all state capitals for this virus should not cost solo much.

What has d leader done that he should be appreciated? He enjoys free food, free accommodation, free healthcare, free transport & home and abroad, free phone call, free clothing and u are still asking people that haven't eaten to support a man that is overfed. What is d essence of all d largess I mentioned? What kind of support are u expecting people to support buhari b4 he does his job? Is there anywhere in d constitution that says without "prayers and support" from d citizens, buhari will not work?
