FG plan was to do target testing while keep things as normal as possible.

Our problem started with the elite or rich class who refused simple instruction of self isolating. This is getting out of hand because of irresponsible citizens who came back from high risk countries and failed to self isolate thereby putting other people’s live in danger.

Let’s take example of how the Medical director at UCH got the virus. A woman who is actually a doctor came back from UK with her son, she failed to self isolate and took her child to her day care. The child fell sick and was rushed to UCH, she lied about her travel history and told them the son was battling with malaria. It was after running test that they discover the child doesn’t have malaria and they took the son for testing for Covid-19 and the result came back positive. In the process he infected the medical director at UCH. Do you even know how many people would have gotten it from those 2?
Look at this coming from a professional doctor, it sounds disgusting. cry

I don't think it's a lie tho, especially on the Ikotun part Odizeey mentioned.

Just saw some video now, with them confirming the bagco sac of rice and bread was what Lagos State allocated to Ikotun LCDA to hand to some of the residents.

Omo that thing no go reach me for two weeks grin grin

The VI part is a lie. Also, one of the special assistants of the Lagos state government mentioned specifically that some other private individuals were doing giveaways but many were attributing it to the state government. He specifically mentioned what the give-away should contain. I do not know what he said but you can look it up.

We will always complain about any and everything.
A multi billion dollar company tweets that there are ventilators available to be given out for free Nigeria, currently battling the pandemic, requests support. What exactly is the issue I don't understand.

1st and 2nd world countries with well-equipped healthcare systems are being made to look useless and incompetent by Coronavirus and are begging for help for everything from mask to sanitizer and all. but we Nigerian are angry because the government are looking for help. It's mad.

The government has databases of Nigerians, such as BVNs, national identification numbers, account numbers of market women used in the Tradermonie scheme. These can assist them if they're really serious.

While campaigning for posts, these politicians know ways to reach citizens in every nook and cranny of the country. They could adopt the same approach to ensure as many Nigerians as possible get relief packages.

@ bolded, majority of Nigerians do not have these. Those with BVN are said to be 40m+. That’s 1/5 of our population.

Even if they import the ventilators who will operate them?
How many healthcare workers based in Nigeria have expert experience in using them?

Practically every doctors’ strike over the years has been met with opposition by the general public and even here on NL.

Doctors complained about not being properly trained, equipped, or remunerated for years but the narrative that the people loved to believe was that of the lazy and greedy Nigerian doctor.

Now we have neither the equipment nor the staff to respond if this pandemic sweeps us like it has done in Europe and America.
I can bet you if they dash us these ventilators some will still get resold. That's how wicked and fiendish our leaders are.

It was that joker Charles Anazodo that was on Twitter the other day dragging doctors for going on strike while the Corona was about to start. This was the same ninja crying because Tiwa Savage didn't greet him the other day.

This is why I said our government deserve all the dragging it gets and excusing them now will not help us in the short or long run

Leadership is extremely irresponsible in this country. The nagging question should be why do we have so few ventilators to begin with? but all over social media I'm seeing people making faulty comparisons as if our own efforts at fighting the virus is at their scale at all.

If we had a thriving industry we would be able to produce enough for the relatively low cases we have now.

Begging Elon Musk for ventilators is a weak move for a country that didn't prioritize it's healthcare as it should have

We have Ventilators to treat those we currently have, is it until we have a spike that we should start scrambling for ventilators? Is that not what we were blaming govt for before?

I think before we can say "let's beg", we need to have been in a situation where we have exhausted all our resources. How many number of confirmed cases do we have compared to other nations?

We have merely been fortunate with the relatively low spread. Don't make it sound like what we have is actually adequate or down to our competence.

This is where we get it wrong. Our not asking why is why we are always in this mess.

We had Doctors being threatened with sack despite being owed months of salary.

It's not about 60 years of mismanagement being solved in two weeks, it's that a country that wanted to borrow $500m for NTA less than 3 weeks ago is online begging for free ventilators.

Whatever happens there is zero incentive for Tesla to give us ventilators ahead of responsible countries with more pressing needs for them

At bolded, Govt is not borrowing $500m for NTA. $500m is for the whole ministry of information and culture.

NTA digitalization is actually $11m.

Is it not better to beg now that a company making them says they have some free to give out? Should we wait until we have a lot of cases in critical condition before we start looking for more?

Isn’t that what you are blaming govt for before?

This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. So we are comparing closing borders to rice to corona virus?? Was the govt adamant to closing earlier because of backlash they were going to receive or putting their own lives and lives of the citizens above everything else. So why did they now close the borders after cases were confirmed instead of closing it when they had ample time and opportunity to nip this nonsense in the bud??

Please what am I missing??

Of course, you missed the point by 100 miles.

When Nigeria closed her borders to "rice" as you said, the news space was awash with how cruel it was by commentators like you. Today, that singular act is why Nigeria will have rice during this shutdown. It encouraged local production.

The highlighted portion of your post is english I do not understand. You can help me.

Your last question is why I know you don't understand the issue. Not all cases are a result of not closing the border. Nigerians flew to other countries that were not closed and then used the landed border to drive in. How do you stop them at that point?

My position is that we don't have any right to start begging anyone to donate ventilators for us. How many number of confirmed cases do we have? Have 1000 people been hospitalized to suggest that the country do not have the ability to manage the situation?

Innoson may have links in China that can source ventilator parts for him to assemble. What he needs is purchase capital from FG

Lack of money sir

Not true

If Innoson is offering to build it, why are looking for 500 for free?

Because it is free?

Ukraine and Spain have so many confirmed cases, and are probably running out of areas to purchase. Then you want Musk to pack 500 and give you, wey just get 250 cases and 2 deaths?

No country knows ANYWHERE they can purchase it from.

Let them meet Innoson to build it. Two men fixed the ventilators in a hospital in Jos. With the right tools, equipments and resources, Innoson, Proforce and others can build ventilators for us

After border has been shutdown or before?

So it’s until we have lots of cases in critical condition before we start sourcing for more ventilators?

Wonderful.

I cannot speak for the UK but the USA? Even president Trump agrees because he has hinted at it several times now. Recently, some journalists used their camera phones to record some hospitals in the so-called epicentres asking for a dramatic increase in the number of kits etc. It did not look like they were handling half as many cases as they claimed. This is in addition to the data that I presented.

Deaths at home, even in the US will require family consent for post-mortem, which family may not consent to. Even, many of the ones consented to are still awaiting results. Therefore deaths are still underreported as we speak. The data may catch up later.

Who would allow them into ICU?

Most hospitals now in UK look deserted if you film them. It is when you enter ICU that you will see the real koko.

You're missing my point, I'm not faulting sourcing for ventilators man, I'm only against the "online begging" from Elon. Like others have said earlier, of what importance is Nigeria to musk to "dash" us free ventilators?.

If you don't consent, nobody is going to touch the corpse. Here in the US, this has become a priority.

I am saying even some doctors working in ICUs are corroborating my assertion. You mentioned a case about cancer, that the hospital gave a patient 3 weeks to live does not mean they were going to live for exactly 3 weeks. In fact, the first "coronavirus death" in Nigeria was a man who was in the UK for cancer treatment and was given up to die. Which is why he returned to Nigeria, to die. Then he died and Nigeria had to report it as a coronavirus death.

If the person died of COVID it should rightly be categorised as a COVID death.
