Whosoever wants to know why my state is more important than Lagos should kindly ask Buhari and his economic team why they had to reverse his budget downwards on two occasions in less than 3 weeks as oil prices dropped. When you are done asking come back and tell me how important Lagos is and how she earns her revenue. In the meantime let me repeat what Wike said to some citizens of his state, " ntor", "ntor", "ntor".... The Wile that he take development to only section of state and heaven will not fall is now crying wolf because people have given him a portion of his medicine! First to do no dey pain! "Ntor"....Go to Lagos take the money. |

'No state should be superior' yet a state like Bayelsa collects more allocation than Lagos sef. Lagos should be afforded a special status. |

'No state should be superior' yet a state like Bayelsa collects more allocation than Lagos sef. Lagos should be afforded a special status. almost 60% of VAT in Nigeria is being generated from Lagos yet she still has to share it almost equally with 35 other States. |

Why would a governor said this. Do you pray for your state to have corona virus at such rate like Lagos. The money is given to Lagos to fight the battle not to spread to other state and you are politicizing the issue. Na wah for this governor ooo |

huptin:You cant compare apples and oranges please. No doubt, OBJ was a far far better economic manager, but 1999 was not the same thing as 2015. In 1999, a man could have lived comfortably off a salary of 20k, but it isn't the same thing as today. Nigeria may have had a forex reserve of $5bn in 1999, but that amount is almost equivalent to $50bn of today considering the sharp increase in forex demand over the last 20 years (Nigeria's forex demand today is roughly more than 10 times what it was in 1999)... In 1999, Nigeria wasn't importing all of its petroleum products, which is currently the biggest drain on our fx today. In 1999, how many ordinary Nigerians were going overseas for studies or medicare compared to today (these thing consume forex)? How many people were buying things off Alibaba, Ebay and other foreign market places? How many Nigerians were into foreign online or importation businesses requiring forex? We didnt even have internet banking in Nigeria back in 1999, let alone the visa or mastercards which everyone has in their pockets today. In 1999, Nigeria could literally almost survive with a closed border and zero forex because we largely grew our own food, produced our fabric, refined our fuel etc; but today, even the most basic food items like rice, medicines, petrol, paper, polythene bags, basic fabrics, handekerchiefs etc. we import all of it. But you expect the $5bn reserve of 1999 to be equivalent to what it is today? If OBJ was president in 2015, when oil prices took a sharp dip, and when the savings in reserves were dangerously low (in relation to the fx demand of the time), Nigeria would have also gone into that same recession. Only difference is that an OBJ may have handled it more efficiently and it wouldn't have lasted that long. Contrary to your claim on 4%, the gdp growth rate as at Q2 2015 (when PDP left) was 2.4%; Yes, following the oil price crash which began in late 2014, the much touted gdp growth rate of 7% crashed to 2.4% before Buhari came to power (you can easily google and verify that). Now may I remind you that this was under the watch of a powerful NOI (who also worked with OBJ), and guess what? oil prices were still over $60/barrel and $10bn was spent from the reserves (between Sept 2014 and May 2015) to support the economy, but yet exchange rate still crashed from N160 to N230, gdp rate crashed also to 2.4%. With a forex reserve of $28.6bn (exact figure as at May 29th, 2015), and with no more room to take money from reserves to support the economy and with oil prices still progressively crashing further to $28, what magic did you expect a 'dull' Buhari to do then? It's very easy for humans to loosely commit the fallacy 'post-hoc ergo propter hoc' (i.e. "Pmb became president, then recession came; so therefore, recession came because pmb became president). But we're all educated abeg, let's apply some more analytical thinking instead of just weak political/emotional conclusions. Buhari takes all the blame for not being able to have done wonders after 5 years, but saying recession of 2016 was caused by him is just a weak analogy (which majority of Nigerians are guilty of). |

0m0nnakoda:Simple, if Lagos is that rich they should bailout Buhari's government. The GDP figure you for Lagos is exaggerated. If Lagos was strong, it reflect in the revenue that state generates. You failed also include the revenue Lagos generates because you know there is NONE! Oil and gas accounts more than 80 percent of revenue, 90 percent foreign exchange earnings is from oil and gas. Even the industrial sector of Nigeria is heavily dependent on regions outside the south West so what does have to arrive at the figures you are claiming? If Lagos is as important as you claimed, why is the Lagos crowd always nervous about the success or growth of other areas in the South? |

Clothingonline9:Its clear u are a learner Most of what you typed are very very laughable There’s nothing like the south east or ss it is the eastern region , and that is the region responsible for 85% of Nigeria’s revenue. Go ask because I know u lack knowledge the seaports n airports in Lagos are negligible in terms of revenue to the federal government. |

PHijo:How much is oil revenue I gave a very simple calculation. If you disagree refute it with you own figures Last year Nigeria generated 1.2 trillion from VAT https://economicconfidential.com/2020/02/nigeria-generated-n1-17trn-vat-2019/ And More than half of that was from Lagos That is JUST VAT we haven't talked of Money from the ports,Customs and company tax This is not about emotions but facts and figures If you have contrary facts share them |

Telling them Ntoorr, Ntooor, he has not even started? Yeye dey smell. If not for the love of God I would have wished him evil in this covid19 season. One day I will make a list of these thieves and table their matter for justice from the most high. |

obailala:Ok i am trying to see things more from your own Lens, in 1999 forex demand was relatively low agreed, but i disagree that $5bn will equivalent of $50bn now, year on year inflation rate of the US is less than 2% adjusting for inflation and other metrics the value of $5bn in 1999 should be about $6bn now, the dollar is a relatively stable currency. But i am happy you agree with me that a more robust management of the economy could have at least minimized the duration of the recession. |
