@austin, this swahili sentence "hakuna matata" sounds Sotho/Tswana? Please correct me if am wrong I know a bit of Zulu. swear words obviously. by the way tswanas and pedi trace their roots to Sothos.

Imagine a tswana learning swahili while they can learn Zulu, as it will make more sense

Swahili is spoken in many countries...in africa it can only be compared to Arabic language...so if ya doing business in Comoros or congo, learning Swahili will help you....an swahili is not a tribal based language...no tribe can claim ownership

Do you know how Swahili came to be? All Swahili speakers has their roots from different tribes.Either a Bantu tribe,arab,or Portuguese,etc.
When u call someone a Swahili,don't think they have no roots on any tribe! In Tz,we have tribes.But Swahili is swallowing those tribal languages in a very fast pace. Most folks just grew up speaking Swahili.

Many tribal languages, about 127.mostly are small tribes.

@xhosanostra, I saw on TV the other day a group of immigrants from Gabon and Cameroon saying their language Fang, Ewondo and Duala has similar words to Xhosa, example "mbolo in Fang /ewondo is Molo in Xhosa for greeting and Mbolweni in fang/ewondo is molweni in Xhosa that's a reply in all these languages. Same can be said about words like " nyoka" is snake in Lingala in DRC, Duala Cameroon, Fang Gabon/Equatorial guinea etc...they showed a lot of words that were similar to Xhosa and Zulus and south Africans were shocked by the similarities. They said SA black languages are a mixture of central africa and east African with a small mix of borrowed khoi words.

Kazi there are coastal tribes who call them swahili people...they have their own culture..look speaking swahili doesnt mean you are a wewe nimswahili ...kazi kuna waswahili na wabara..sawa

Swahili is a nice language & it's one of the languages I'm curious to learn. It sounds attractive when people are speaking it. I watched the Kenyan version of Sarafina & I liked when the announcer switched to Swahili. You don't even notice horrible accents when people are speaking in their own languages

I'm beginning to believe we're really somehow connected or perhaps were one people in a long distant past.

You have no idea the love we got for Sarafina here..the dances,the ladies..waaah ...Sarafina should never be translated to any other language...we like the original

might not work well..some countries are french while others like Tanzania dont have that thing for english..swahili will do well in the region...

My swahili is modern trust me...so kazi might claim originality but thats just crap... languages evolve eg english
