When the then military dictator, General Ibrahim Babangida, hastily moved Nigeria’s capital from Lagos to Abuja in the rugged hinterland a quarter of a century ago, the Nigerian government soon discovered one entity they couldn’t move: the lagoon.

Rather than bewail this disadvantage, they came up with a solution ― The Jabi Lake, an artificial reservoir.

Once a freshwater pond, Jabi Lake is now a major reservoir that straddles a big shopping mall and residential estates a few miles from the city centre.

There is a recreational park beside the lake called the Jabi Park. There is also a shopping mall beside the Lake - Jabi Lake Mall which houses Shoprite and others

The man-made Jabi lake, situated next to the park, offers amazing canoe rides, speed boat rides, and other water sports. It is also a fishing spot for fishermen.

Perhaps, after this CoviD-19 Goes down, you can go for a picnic in the park.
