China has banned the consumption of dogs and cats following the coronavirus crisis. The origins of COVID-19 have reportedly been traced back to animal to human transmission through consumption. Now, illegal food markets and distributors will be under strict control, with a new list of animals allowed for consumption being drawn up. Dogs and cats are not included on this new list and the sale of their meat will now be illegal.
