I really appreciate their efforts a lot. Our Medics team are doing wonderful job to see we are safe.

Imagine, 85% of Nigerians are at home with their love ones while this people are struggle to protect and treat us from this highly contagious Virus.

Federal Governmet should please do something to boost moral of these people. They should pay them extra allowance or increase their salary.

Most countries are doing this, we should learn from them.

Thank you NMA
Thank you NCDC
Thank you all.

Greystone:

In case you aren't aware, all doctors in nigeria, whether u r a house officer or a Chief Consultant, all of us receive a flat rate of N5k monthly only as Hazard allowance.

But honestly at such a time as this, I'm more concerned with my patients being alive and well and safe guarding my health and that of my family.

God help us all.
Hey man, you guys are genuine. I salute you all, may LORD protect and guide you throughout your service to humanity.

5k as an Hazard allowance? Is too bad. Senators sitting allowance is bigger than some Doctors salary.

Naija which way?

I hail you Greystone.

Amen my brother.

A lot of sacrifices are being made by health professionals all the time.

My sincere prayer is that may God show our country mercy that we don’t experience the terrible number of
fatalities that western countries are suffering.

Why must everything be monetized in Nigeria. Any extra payment should be seen as a privilege rather than a right. Soon Police will ask for extra pay to disperse a chaotic crowd as if its not their routine to disperse people in that scale, and fire fighters would soon ask for extra pay to fight off and overwhelming fire, as it is an unusual massive outbreak. This money culture has and will continue to be Nigerias undoing.

In all advanced countries, there was no extra pay for health workers to fight covid, as it was deemed to be their job to take care of Ill people in the first place, and no one can demand to be paid more for what he been contracted to do in the first place.

Covid is an infectious disease, and infectious disease Doctors and Nurses are in the frontline of fighting this in the UK and Europe, once they need ventilatory support, anaesthetists are involved to provide possible ICU care. AnE doctors and nurses pick up those who come in as Emergencies, stabilize them and refer them accordingly. While public health workers engage in health advocacy and contact tracing. The Laboratory staff off course are engaged in massive testing. Thus their already contracted model of care continues, and no one scouts to be paid extra, as everyone was contracted abinitio to take care of sick people. Only incentives like free food, free uber rides, weekly national ovation, shopping priority are given. Also the worker advocate more for protective equipments.

But in Nigeria Doctors and Nurses see Pandemics and outbreaks as opportunity to make it big. Meanwhile the Government have invested greatly already in these specialties, training Infectious diseases Doctors, Public health Doctors, Anaesthetist etc for free, while even paying them during these years training. Yet they all come up to demand extra pay during outbreaks. This in my opinion is quite selfish and not the way to go.
