"********* "Who likes to date a pest kwanu? It's a two way thingy." Diane laughed. Love is sweet o, but when money enter love it's sweeter! Diane sang. "I'm not ready for any relationship biko," "Your mum will soon arrange husband for you." Diane laughed. Pearl rolled her eyes, playfully though, Diane's parent have never asked her to get settled down soon, so she wouldn't understand the gravity of it. "I can't believe my opening day is in two days." She smiled, Pearl wished she could embrace her for being a 'woman' Oh, well, who said she couldn't? She left the shelf she was working on and walked to Diane with open arms. "I'm so happy for you dear." She wasn't expecting Diane's reaction but it happened. Diane burst into tears. Pearl continued to pat her back while she shed the tears of joy. "You've come this far because of your determination to pursure your dreams." "But, but, but..." Diane stammered. "I never believed I could do it." Pearl smiled. She had always known that whatever Diane puts her mind to, she gets it done. And this? This is just one of those things. "Diane, in you I see a woman who's not afraid to hustle and lead her dream life. I admire you for that." Motivational speech time! Pearl never miced words with Diane. She found Diane an inspiration. She was born with a silver-silver spoon but her she was trying to set up her own little business without her father's help. Not that he didn't offer to help anyway, but from all Pearl knew, Diane declined the offer. Despite being an only daughter and a share holder in her dad's empire, Diane wasn't scared to let people know that she wasn't willing to walk down that line of the family business. The first time she had told Pearl about it, even Pearl had adviced her against it. Her reaction was "Your dad will die of heart attack if he gets to know about this" kind of reaction. But, that didn't deter Diane, she kept on pushing and doing online jobs in addition to her boyfriend's support and here she was with her own business, a business which had her name tag all over it. She called it D's Bridal Boutique and Studio. A business which would cater for all the needs of a bride on her big day, including her makeup, hair and even the cakes and canopies. Diane had attended a catering school while she was in the University without her father's knowledge. "Enough crying. Girl, if I were you, I would be praising and thanking God for giving me wisdom." Diane nodded in acknowledgement. Just then, they heard a loud honk right outside the building. "Tony," Diane said, the moment she looked out through the window. "I invited him." she added when Pearl gave her a puzzled look. Pearl wanted to scream 'What for?' but she had to keep her cool. It's not like she had any beef with him or something but she enjoyed the way she walked about and talked freely with 'Just' Diane. "Good afternoon ladies." He greeted, hugging Diane and giving her a slight peck on the cheek. "T, thanks for coming." "You're welcome." he turned to face Pearl. "hope I'm not intruding?" He probably noticed her discomfort. She laughed. "Not at all. Welcome." "Thanks. I just wanted to see how the place looked before the opening day." he looked around, Pearl could see deep admiration in his eyes. "Thanks for coming," Diane walked to him. "Let me show you around. I could really use your help now. Thanks to Pearl, I've not fainted. Nobody told me I would be this emotional and nervous." "Hey, calm down," he placed a hand over Diane's shoulder. "think of the future and where you want to be. It would really help." "Thanks," she winked at Pearl and winked. "Tony, I don't know how this escaped me." she closed her eyes as if in deep thought. "I really need to meet up with my web designer now." Tony's expression changed, it was so obvious he was really concerned. "Now?" "Now, like now." she kept on packing her bags as she spoke. Pearl knew it was all a lie. The meeting with her web designer ended an hour ago. She suspected Diane was up to no good but she just didn't have an evidence. Now she did. "Diane, I will go with you." Pearl smiled sweetly. "Nah," she replied. "I will be back soon. Stay here and keep Tony company." she threw a quick glance at her wristwatch. "I will be back soon. It won't take more than 30 minutes." She hurried out before Tony or Pearl had the chance to reply her. It was just the two of them. Silence was awkward. Pearl tried to come up with something interesting, but her brain was busy with other things. "You know I didn't ask her to do this, right?" Tony asked, wearing a halfhearted smile. He could see 'discomfort' written all over her and he needed to make her calm. Pearl smiled, even though she didn't feel it. "I know Diane. She's my best friend. This is solely her handiwork." "Let's not give her that satisfaction." Tony smirked, leaving Pearl with a puzzled look. "I'm leaving now. I have a meeting with a top client now." "Hope you're not leaving because of me?" Pearl asked, feigning concern. "Not at all." he smiled, reassuringly. "On a scale of 1-10, how free are you this evening?" "7," she replied, "would have been 10, but I have a book to read." "What book is that?" "The Power of Positive Thinking." she replied, curtly. "I see you're a bookworm." "Not really. I just use books to keep myself busy." "I've noticed you you don't go out often," he smirked. "why is that so?" "I'm just not outgoing." she said, without emotion. "Cool. Let's meet later this evening." he turned to fully face her. "My house." Her eyes instantly widened. "Your house?" "My house." he brought out a card from his pocket and handed it to her. "my home address. I will be expecting you." with that, he walked out leaving Pearl confused. "Hell no," she murmured. "we've not gotten to that extent." She became more confused. What if she went? How would she cope? What would they discuss? Would he try to touch her? Hell no! That was the most confusing part. She would never allow him. But, what if he tried to force her? At this age? He wouldn't dare? She would kill him. So many thoughts struggled for supremacy in her mind. Since her last encounter with Benjamin, the guy that deflowered her and took away her innocence. She made it a point of duty not to visit any guy, no matter how nice he seems or seemed. "Wake up!" she heard Diane scream. "Demon," she rolled her eyes at Diane. "you didn't go anywhere, did you?" "Nah, I wanted to go grab lunch. Was there when I saw Tony drive past. What's up? What's bothering you?" Diane looked concerned. "Nothing." she made to walk away and then turned back. "Oh, thanks to you, I have a date this evening." "Cool," the excitement in Diane's voice didn't escape Pearl. "Where?" "His house." "Great." Diane exclaimed. "he wants something real with you. He rarely invites anyone over. I've only ever been to his house once...his mansion rather." Pearl hissed and picked her bag. "I see my work here is done. I'm leaving." "Haunty serious," Diane mocked. "calm down joor. Are you allergic to rich guys? Calm down and let's see if this one will work." "I don't like him." "You don't have to like him at first sight. It's not always love at first." "Let's see how it goes," Pearl shrugged. "are you done? I have a date to prepare for, all thanks to you." "That's the spirit," Diane laughed even though there was no single trace of smile on Pearl's face. "let's grab lunch first." Pearl agreed. And, in no time they were out and on their way to Jevies, one of the best eatery in town. **** Soma laid quietly on his bed. Even though it's supposed to be work time. But, he just couldn't concentrate and had to rush back home. There was so much on his mind. He had gone to work that morning, without any problem bothering his mind but before mid day, he got a call from a girl he hooked up with just about some weeks ago. He had wanted to ignore the call but he decided to be a gentleman and answer. His bad, because she had called to tell him that she was pregnant, not just pregnant but pregnant for him. It had come as a shock to him. They had sex, about two or three times, but in those two or three times, she had assured him she was on the pills. His mind flashed back to the conversation between them on the phone. "I...I thought you said you were on the pill?" he had asked. "I was but they were probably adulterated. Trust me, I'm not lying." "Wha...what? I really don't know what to say or do now?" at this point he was more confused than a man whose wife was in labour. "what do you think we should do?" "Keep it," came her sharp reply. "I'm obviously not ready to be a father." he yelled at her. He was slowly loosing it. That was not even a news he ever expected to receive from anyone. So, hearing her talk about being pregnant for him, felt like a big stone was placed on his shoulder and he didn't even know what to do with the stone. "Abort it." she suggested again. Abort? As in abortion? He lived a reckless life but he never for once thought of abortion. No, not abortion. Without speaking any further, he ended the call. Just to stop her from worrying herself to death. He sent her a text, explaining his state of mind and promised to get back to her with whatever conclusion he reached at night. He walked to the fridge and grabbed a bottle of water. He gulped down the content, in one long gulp. Definitely not abortion, he wasn't ready to commit abortion. He drank, he smoked, he had sex, which his mum never failed to remind him that he was involving in fornication, but abortion was something he never thought of doing. He was always careful not to get any girl he's been with pregnant. How did this happen? He asked himself. He thought of telling his mum but he quickly dismissed the thought. Telling his mum, meant getting married to the lady. His mum was a firm believer in taking responsibility for one's actions. Tbc. 4 Likes 1 Share |
