Hey,
I know about Farad contractors. But I've only seen stones, marbles, bricks as their specialization. I may be wrong. But my plan is to use exclusively cladding tiles for a smooth surface.

Question:

I have lots of block that was moulded back in 2016 then something came up on the land... things have settled now ..
I was wondering if those 9 inch blocks are still durable for building?..(intended build is a 2 storey building)

I will advise u to please don't use them .....they are weak already.... and if you still wanna use it ....pls only use it for partitions only... Walls that aren't carrying any load.

Hi,

The longer the blocks stay if well stacked the better they get.

If Anyone thinks a block stacked for 4 years would be bad for building, then even if it was used 4 years ago, the building shd have collapsed or cracked by now.

I've used blocked stacked for more than 4 years on a site belonging to a Niralander, and Omo the strength was amazing. (see attached pics) - I stopped updating the thread, work has gotten to upper floor thou.

I also wonder how anyone would know if the block is bad or good WITHOUT asking to see pictures.

THIS DAYS... everyone is a builder.

Please share a pics or 2...or do a test in the lab or simple do a physical check and drop test on site.

Goodluck...

Hi,

Please don't advise people to use blocks that's been exposed for several years for construction. Other than partitioning. Such block should not be used for substructure work or superstructure wall carrying dead loads.

Conduct a compressive strength test on your exposed blocks and show us the result.

Thanks

Good evening everyone, I have a query I'm hoping you guys can help me out with.
My mum has a land she bought some 20+ years ago somewhere in the mainland of Lagos, she has never developed or built anything on it all this time and as of the last time she checked (Some 2 years ago) the land is still very much intact.

When she bought the land, she got a receipt and plans but no Certificate of Ownership.
Now the challenge is she is looking to sell the land and is not sure if it would be worth her while getting the Certificate of Ownership or if she can sell it without.

Thanks in advance for your help

EXPOSED TO WHAT?

RAIN WATER AND SUNLIGHT...

Since when did rain water and sunlight become a curse to BLOCK..

I repeat.... IF WELL STACKED, THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH IT.

Except you can proof how being exposed to sunlight and rain water is a curse.. Even after use, it's going to be exposed to same conditions for years if not plastered in time.

I stand with what I said... No disrespect.

The design is okay. A little observation 1) The kitchen is a bit far from the dinning. 2) The laundry position is not too good to access.

Actually, i think it's you that should provide supporting literature (or fact) to back up your logic that such blocks, despite proper storage conditions, should not be used nonetheless due to age.

Just like old wine...

Good advice,
but I recently used a block that was hand moulded around 2004 and you will be amazed at how strong they are. The bricklayers had to use hammer to break some of them sef

Morning GoodFaith,
If am not mistaken, he said the carpenter is bringing his own wood.... And he's also doing an all round lintel plus about 7 columns for 50k...

Morning dbshaywhy,
Be fair to the carpenter, he'll pay to transport the wood to site and pay to pack it. You're not buying wood and yet he wld pay his workmanship.

That price is fair.... Whether it is 50k or 65k...

Maybe you should start by calculating how much wood he wld use.

Goodluck.

Thanks you all for your contribution... I actually pay up last price posted and am happy a gud job was delivered

Thanks everyone that responded..

Man, I had the same feeling myself. I dont feel it is safe to use for a multi story building... i wouldnt have worried if it was a bungalow or even a duplex but for a multi storey building? That's one of those head scratching moments..

The blocks in question is more than 5,000. Or should be more than 5000 pending what the thiefs have moved in the past 4 years.

I will post the pictures in due course.. grass have covered both the land and the blocks.. after the look down, I will have someone clean it up and I will post the pictures of the block.

Wooding cladding just the way you do Wooding flooring. Contemporary.

Thank you for the response bro
Hargbo:
according to the dimension above, the 250block is accurate and the cost of setting 250block is around 12500..
So for the plastering and decking you can pay him 15k for that...

It should not be more than 30k at most, if he is not ready to do it, get another Bricklayer and tell him the amount you will pay him for such work

Setting of Block + plastering and casting of Slab = 30k

Don't allow anybody to rip you off o
Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by Emmycool85: 2:52am On Apr 22, 2020
We finally agreed to 35k after much talk and you are right, he was complaining about the stress involved
bobkezel:

I doubt if he will get a good bricklayer that will accept 30k.
They charge higher when it comes to soakaways and septic tanks cos of the stress involved. Soakaways are not like normal setting of building blocks.
