First ASUU refused saying they have autonomy, later they said IPPIS cannot accomodate their peculiarities like age of retirement, visiting lecturer n so on. Then they brought UTAS and say the government should be paying them through it.

FG refused and gave them deadline to enroll or they won’t get their salary. Some enrolled and some didn’t. Since Feb FG stopped payment to those not enrolled on the platform and then ASUU declare indefinite strike in March.

Yesterday, Buhari gave approval for their withheld salary to be paid (Feb/March) so they can at least provide for their families during this pandemic. Tonight ASUU says they are not going to drop their BVN to get paid.

ASUU are not foools who would out rightly reject the government's offer on the IPPIS because they want to get stuck on the old ways of doing things, they gave reasons for rejecting IPPIS.

Not only did they just reject the IPPIS, they gave an alternative system/platform which they believe is simpler to implement and will achieve the accountability as well as eliminate ghost workers getting paid, which of course is what the government claims IPPIS seeks to achieve.

The government is not going to continue doing things the old way. The government is coming to a compromise to pay them during this pandemic yet they are saying the government should go pay them through the old method. BVN will expose the lot of them taking multiple salary from the system.

You actually think a payment system like IPPIS is static? The Accountant general has said it repeatedly that the system can take on their peculiarities and it will be factored into the system when registering them. Is IPPIS not paying those that has enrolled? There are non teaching staff of universities already on IPPIS, there are teaching staff of college of education and poly also on the system and IPPIS is paying them, so what exactly is the peculiarities that ASUU are shouting about?

It’s even funny they are proposing a payment platform the government should use to pay them. They are employees of govt. they didn’t employ themselves. Let all other agencies should kuku start proposing their own payment system for the government to pay them.

The government did wrong by withholding their salary when they know they are still on the negotiation table. The government proposed IPPIS, ASUU rejected it and proposed UTAS instead which they believe took care of the peculiarities of the tertiary education sector emoluments.

There was a stalemate with both parties claiming their own software system is best suited for the accountability and transparency the government plans to achieve.

The government applied the stick by withholding their salary. Now they want to pay and the lecturers insist they get paid the normal way it's been done in the past pending when they both agree on the IPPIS/UTAS payment solution.

I don't think there is anything wrong in this. The government has shown they can't be trusted in the past and the lecturers are not taking chances. They believe if they get paid tru BVN, the government might as well use that to drag them back to the IPPIS which they have vehemently rejected.

Are you aware there are series of deductions made from the salaries of university, polytechnic, and college lecturers, who joined IPPIS at the beginning of the year?

FG seems to be dishonest about this IPPIS thing, especially when it comes to people in academia.

There’s nothing special about their peculiarities. It won’t even take anything to set them up. Medical doctors who receive all kind of allowance are on the system also. The military are also going to be enrolled on the system. What exactly is that peculiarities that IPPIS cannot solve?

I hope you know there are some of their memebers that have enrolled on this IPPIS and they have been getting their salary? Government has every right to withhold their salary because they failed to compile with the directive that’s meant to process their payment.

As long as ASUU members are employees of government, they cannot dictate how the government or which payment system the government should use to pay them.

ASUU are just a bunch of entitled people, I remember how many times they cancelled session when I was still in school claiming they were tired and after sending us home for months almost a year, They all resumed to private Universities to teach and get paid double

You are forgetting who the employer and employee is here, and trade union in an environment like Nigeria where many people are jobless, You remember one time Doctors went on strike and Lagos state govt put their roles up for hire, they got thousands of application from many doctors who have been jobless before

I already argued some time back, Public University is becoming a waste of time for many courses especially for Technical course, You are almost certain going to learn more useful stuff online than in those Universities where your lecturer will be teaching you Fortran77
