Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, has placed a ban on almajiri system in the state.

Mohammed in a statewide broadcast on Thursday evening said the old almajiri system was no longer tenable and healthy in the midst of the dreaded Coronavirus in the state.

He said, “The almajiri system which operates through the aggregation and congregation of hundreds of children who beg by the day and cluster in large numbers at night may accelerate the spread of Coronavirus.

“There is an agreement by Northern governors to ban the almajiri system in the region.

"The almajiri system is hereby banned in the state.”

The governor, who said Kaduna and Kano states were in the process of evacuating almajirai of Bauchi extraction, added that the state government had prepared the NYSC Camp in the state to keep them pending when they will be reunited with their families.

Bala said almajiri from other states, who reside in Bauchi State would also be repatriated to their states.

The governor has also placed a ban on okada riders whom he said had infiltrated Bauchi from neighbouring states.

He said, “I’m sure you know that all our neighbouring states; Kano, Jigawa, Gombe, Borno, Yobe, Taraba, Kaduna and the FCT have banned the operation of commercial motorcycles otherwise known as Achaba.

“Unfortunately, they have relocated to our state posing a serious threat to security, hence the ban.”

Very good move by the govt.

I still don't understand how a human being will keep giving birth to children he can't take care of.

Imagine a 25 year old itinerant manicurist who barely makes 1k a day with 2 wives and 7 children. How can he feed, cloth and house them? Meanwhile, these are just the basic needs, let's not talk about schooling and adequate healthcare. The only available option is to hide under religion and start sending a 5 yr old to go fend for himself with the tag "almajiri".

This ungodly practice should not just be banned on papers, it should be very practical. And any parent that can't feed their families should be made to work in a govt farm, the proceed be used to feed and train the innocent children.

The whole thing is getting too nasty and very stupid. All these learned Islamic clerics need to rise up to the challenge and start condemning this unacceptable practice. Yes, unacceptable even in Islam and I stand to be corrected by any Islamic scholar.

Lol it's crazy it took a pandemic to get these guys to stop this nonsense. These deadbeats should learn to take care of their kids. Anyone that's not collected will end up being foster kids.

You should use Hanlon's razor in this case. There's no logical benefit to having a buch of beggars in your state.

Religion tends to have little or nothing to do with man's logic.
