xpool:Sharap then get them what they need to act as doctors Because at this point the only thing they have got is knowledge of the field not equipment Which is one sided So if you cant provide them Don't force them |

Tinyemeka:This is why I said before that the CMDs of many of our hospitals are incompetent for the job just like Ngige. They use their political influence to get these positions and all they do is run down the hospitals and embezzle funds with impunity and they can't be held accountable because NMA will play politics with it. They keep claiming that govt is funding the health care system enough but we never see the impact of the the little they are given and the politicians have come realise that they can't deal these CMD to account for the funds hence they excuse themselves and seek treatment abroad. |

Sportwin:Shut up! Read well, they did not talk about ppe. Besides, how would you feel if at the time of war with another hostile country, Nigerian army decides to go on strike? All they always ask for is upgrade on emoluments, and they don't love the profession. I always insist they can't work with a covid19 patient without PPRs, that is certain. Mumu, always read well |

ChelseaDr:How would you feel if Nigeria is in a war with a another country and soldiers decide to go on strike? Doctors can go on strike anytime they want, but certainly not this time. All they agitate for always is their emolument, no love and passion for the job. Yes, I don't think any right thinking Nigeria will ever support the government on any issue, because they are useless. But I am beginning to realise that we the masses are more useless and wicked than the politicians, because new politicians who were part of the masses, get into office and, yet no change. Doctors going on strike this time, if they are not carefully the masses may begin to target them and their families. Everybody is angry now and looking for who to take it out on |

Ordinary we the Enugu people would have ignored this paid news but for the sake of the general public who may not have the opportunity of hearing from both sides. The fact remains that when leaders who are be epitome of honesty, integrity and justice become people of dishonest and double standard, then the society is doomed as you will have medicore governance, propaganda as against facts as we can see from the writer. On 26th March 2020, the Parklane Resident Doctors went on indefinite withdrawal of service as a result of poor salary and failed negotiations with the state government. However, that was called off the following day following a written approval from His Excellence the Executive Govornor of Enugu State. The letter promised to meet the demands of the doctors with the April 2020 Salary. The doctors called off the strike for interest of the good people of Enugu and to give His Excellence the benefit of doubt. On 23rd of April 2020 the April salary was paid and the government did not fulfill her promise, rather 25% of their basic was added as COVID 19 allowance. 25% of the 70% CONMESS of 2009. They are not asking for any addition, just pay them the 2019 CONMESS as obtained in other Tertiary Health Institutions. The action of the withdrawal of service is so unfortunate. It is avoidable event solely in the hands of the government. It is more pitable that the government is playing politics in the hospital now we are facing this pandemic. All hands must be on desk to fight this pandemic Enugu State is in the HANDS OF GOD |

Poor doctors. Even the Nairaland medical bashers club is siding with the doctors and nurses which shows that the threat of corona is real. The doctors should go on strike. About the essential services act, it is not similar to the military act. There is NO compulsion as it is not captured in the act. Any good and competent lawyer can quash this in the court of law. No medical worker should handle patients without full PPE and without salary being paid(how do they get to work without transport fare ?). Igbo amaka. Later una go talk say Enugu get potential pass Oyo state |

seedorfg:It's not that simple, it could be an issue of no salary payment, no equipment or no protection. Right now we don't know but a doctor in this time period who isn't adequately protected is in serious trouble. Of course if patients don't recover at the appropriate time or at all their families will want to fight the doctors who are often expected to work magic and heal the sick. |

OEPHIUS:It's illegal for them to down tools but it's not illegal for the governor to feed fat and refuse to pay then what's due them?? The way the public hate doctors is alarming, in face of this pandemic that several doctors has died already a governor would refuse to do it's constitutional job and someone who they pay petty amount would come and write trash that is for concerned citizens, total rubbish |

xpool:This has to be the most silly thing I have ever read on nairaland. Utter nonsense you are spewing here. A soldier cannot.go on strike. The laws binding the soldiers are not the same laws binding the civilian. Get that into your head. Love and passion will feed thier family and pay thier Bill's abi? The masses ate the problem because we dont face the government and here you are planning to target doctors and thier families for wanting what is thiers right. A right to live , a right to work in a conducive environment to provide the best care. A right to be protected from death even though you walk across its path. All you can say is save me if you die in the act then good riddance. Some of you have issues |

Correcto:it is like you don't know how many soldiers go MIA on the battlefield in borno state. I was lucky enough to talk with some of them. One was on an okada I embarked on, he escaped from Boko Haram with his life when he heard that his family had not been paid battle allowance for 9 months. He went MIA and came home to his family in Lagos and saw that his children were out of school for a term and the landlord was about to evict them. He also had plans to go to his school for his HND. So he had to do okada work in order to feed his family. Until sanwo-olu banned okada. And now this coronavirus |

armadeo:I will ignore your African emotion. A soldier can not go on strike abi, because he is not a human being? Because you want him to protect you and your family, even with understocked armoury. You don't think twice before uttering, do you? NMA is not involved, and they are talking about existing issues with their state government, not the general issue you were saying. Read, Blackman read before conclusion. |

xpool:I believe that you can do better than this, how can you be supporting a government that can not be hold by it's words. The government promised them that they will be paid full CONMESS as it is obtainable by other Tertiary Health Institutions but failed. Please do your research well before commenting. |

Boss2985:Exactly what happens when you allow emotions to becloud your brain;; you will start to think one way like Fela sang. Breaching intellectual procedure in forcing your one direction thought with false accusation, does not make your pointless point valid. Where was it written that I have vouched for the government? All I said was, and still maintain is that their planned strike is I'll timed and could tantamount to treason. Take it or leave it. If they were embarking to down tools because of lack of PPEs, it would have been on only covid19 cases. And as usual, we all would be fighting for them. But I no disturb you o, you can back them to go on strike if na your state, then watch and see. |

xpool:The soldiers fighting boko haram have been protesting, General Adeniyi was recently redeployed. You don't send a child to go catch that stinking rat without providing him water to wash his hands. Doctors like Soldiers and other essential service providers are humans too with families. Has it ever bordered you that in most of our hospitals today, a patient has to provide gloves for him/her to be examined. Would you rather our health workers go attend to covid-19 patients with their bare hands, that will be suicidal. Health workers don't have immunity against covid-19. The government at all levels should be held responsible for the mess in our health sector, not the doctors, not the health workers. Again, I refuse to be associated with the "we" that are useless. Lastly, there is no emergency in pandemic. |

xpool:The Holy Book tells us that a worker deserves his wages. You telling us that the masses may begin to target them and their families is uncalled for. Why should the masses target them? Because they are asking the government to pay them what their colleagues in other Tertiary Health Institutions are collecting. Maybe it may interest you to know that a Resident Doctor as highly skilled as he may be has no Permanent job, No Pension, No Gratuity, No Promotion, No Pay off, what they are asking the government is to pay them the full CONMESS as obtainable in other Tertiary Health Institutions. If they are ESSENTIAL SERVICE PROVIDERS, then treat them with ESSENTIAL PRIORITY as the issue of strike will never come up again. |
