AdesegunSanni89:Of course, says a government apologist. Are citizens being paid bogus allowances and salaries for them to be doing the government's job? Why bother electing a government then? Why not just abolish it completely? Mschew. There is no end to the level of daftness on NL these days. |

No wahala I get u for mind! ..quote author=Ade3131 post=88908344] I swear me self dey interested... You look left and right, front and back, and up and down, it's not just looking like there's light at the end of the tunnel. Anything negative you can think of is present in Nigeria. From having a vegetative president to having terrible leaders and followers. Sit down at home to curb the spread of COVID-19, they said No. Okay, NCDC wants to evacuate some suspected CoronaVirus patients from Makoko, area boys said they must be settled or else there's nothing anybody will do to take the dying patients to isolation centre. And truly staying indoor too has its own consequence. Look at hunger starring us in the eyes and the little money we have cannot buy anything again since prices have skyrocketed. Bros, please alert me when you get the change of country form jare.... I just need to get out of here before things go from worse to worst.[/quote] |

So Nigeria do not have enough foreign reserve to pay Foreign Investors that have been draining all developing countries of their reserves with their African Partners. If they do not get their way, they usually turn Zimbabwe, Venezuela, Tanzania etc. into local currencies cheaper than toilet paper. Check this article out and tell us which of these countries had local food to feed themselves. https://www.msn.com/en-za/news/other/destabilize-a-nation-with-imported-food/ar-BB12SglS What do you need in Nigeria that cannot be locally produced? To hell with Foreign Investors and their Odious Loans. Nigeria would be wise to hoard the Foreign Reserves in the Country now and let Foreign Creditors and their Nigerian Launderers go to blazes. They are going to try and bring Nigeria down whichever way. No more Oil Income, money laundering is OVER! |

Bitcoin. Hmmm. I have read up about it but I still don't know enough to invest in it. My previous experience with the clash in the Nigerian stock market about a decade ago is still fresh in my memory. I invested a substantial part of the money made during internship in Nigerian stock market which unfortunately was being manipulated, only for the stocks to crash heavily. I took it as learning process and moved on, and decided not to ever invest in something I do not perfectly understand the attendant risks and how to mitigate those. Since that time I have never tried to check the value of those shares... Now bitcoin. Let's say I inherited a large deal of reluctance from my experience with NSE. I have thought about properties, but I also suspect that the crashing economy will affect the value of land and real estate in Nigeria as well. I am more comfortable with commodity market and saving in foreign currencies. The commodity market is likely to adjust more rapidly to changes in the value of Naira than real estate. PHijo: |

pmoye:Yes, you are right. Property prices would be affected. I doubt the impact on land will be that significant. Nigeria's stock market will have serious challenges going forward. Nonetheless I wouldn't advice against investing in it if you understand what you are doing. Currently the prospects for investing in Nigeria are limited. USD would have been a good alternative but I believe those who have it are already hoarding it. Bitcoin is also not for those who don't understand it. Many fraudsters use it to defraud the unsuspecting public. Depending on how much you have, this may be the best time to start your own business in Nigeria! As much as you can, look for ventures that can earn USD or some other stable forex. |

You sound like an investment expert. I must confess.I personally expect the price of land to crash in some parts of the country, but not the eyebrow areas. With the rising cost of commodities coupled with the fact that a lot of people are going to need money to meet basic needs, more people with landed properties are likely going to consider liquidating such assets to raise money, while on the average we might have fewer buyers of such landed properties. If this assessment is correct, then the buyers are likely going to influence the price causing some depression in the price of landed properties (not eyebrow areas though). Oh yes, I have had a number of businesses in Nigeria for some time now. PHijo: |

commodore007:What you wrote happens to be the wisest thing our professors don't know & secret of all developed societies/countries. If Nigeria should refine her crude oil, the crash in the price of crude oil in the international market will be a comparative advantage to us. Nah unpatriotic Nigerians won't let our refineries function. |
| Re: Dollar Scarcity Stops Capital Repatriation By Investors by PHijo(m): 3:31pm On Apr 27, 2020 |
pmoye:Yes, land prices would drop, I think the drop wouldn't be as significant as the drop in property price. There would be demand and supply for land. The same cannot be said about property. What I will suggest for anyone who will want to buy land is to wait, wait till the lockdown in Italy, France, United kingdom and United states is over. That would signal the easing of conditions here. By then Naira would have lost value significantly and as you rightly pointed out, many people will want to sell their land to feed or start new ventures. |

Hatred has really blinded a lot of youth in this country, so it is Buhari's fault that CoronaVirus has cripple the world? It is Buhari's fault that oil price cost next to nothing because of Covid-19? Almost every country including the USofA, France, Germany, Great Britain, Spain, Italy, Soudi Arabia and lots more are either in recession or about to enter recession. United State of America is recording massive job loss, reason why some of it's citizen have defiled lock down protocol to protest the lockdown in recent week. Covid-19 has destroyed the world has we used to know it, and i don't think the world can ever go back to normal. The virus has no cure and is highly contagious, the world would just learn to live with the current realities. Our government is very bad and has failed us, but what we are currently experiencing today is CHINA's fault. |

It is wise for the common Nigerian to save his/her money in a stronger currency. Nigeria's case is that of someone you have been talking to, to prepare for times like this but never yielded to the warning. It pains me to hear that people have lost their money to depreciating the value of the naira. For people who are looking forward to travelling out of the country or pay for services, and need to maintain the value of the Naira, you can read my post here: https://www.nairaland.com/5806245/currenxbarter-needs-naira-canadian-dollars |

SweetSoup:People don't hate him! They hate the condition he placed Nigeria in. In the last 4 years Saudi Arabia and Russia built their reserves. What did Buhari do? Explored for oil in the North east, shared money in the name of ' tradermoni', cooked miserable meals for school kids etc. Nothing was done to boost the economy. He is the primary problem of Nigeria, not the virus, not the slump in oil price, not recession but a 'leader' who fails to understand the issues. |
