The Choice of a Man



The world we live in is so big and multi-diverse; man is faced with a plethora of options where choices are inevitable.

The moment a man becomes conscious of himself, life begins to present itself to him in different dimensions, he embarks on a personal journey of discovering life and its many complexities, and it is now left for him to choose what he wants for himself and who he wants to become since choices are building blocks of man’s identity.

Choice is a decision, and a judgement a man makes when faced with options, in other words, choice does not exist in the absence of options. Put into perspective, the word ‘Choice’ can be best understood in three (3) dimensions:

1.Choice, as a true test of a man’s level of wisdom.

2.Choice, as a mirror of a man’s value system.

3.Choice, as a major determinant of a man’s future.

Choice, as a true test of a man’s level of wisdom
‘The wisdom of a man is less in his words and more in his choices’, simply put, show me your choice and I will tell you how wise you are. Wisdom guides a man in making right choices, and the right choices give good results.

Choice, as a mirror of a man’s value system
Like the popular saying, ‘show me your friend and I show you who you are’. Man chooses the kind of friends, marital partner, business partners he wants in his life guided by his level of wisdom, and personal conviction. It is also insightful to know that man, naturally, agrees to terms with other persons when he is able to identify with certain characteristics or traits in them, and should a man’s value system, defining characteristic(s), or trait be missing in his partner, it becomes glaring that his choice of that partnership was made out of sheer ignorance.

Choice, as a major determinant of a man’s future.
The choices a man makes are so powerful, they are determinants that can shape or alter his future. The choice a man makes today will determine how fulfilled or how regretful his future will be. ‘A good choice today is the birth for a life of happiness and likewise a bad choice today marks the beginning of a sorrowful and regretful life’. The concept of ‘The choice of a man’ explains why majority of the people in the world today live a regretful life and it is most appalling to see young people in their prime already carrying bags of regret. ‘if only life has a restart button, you will be surprised by the number of people that will want to press it’ just because of bad choice(s) they made at certain point(s) in their lives. It is very important to think, and think again, especially when making choices at strategic points of one’s life so as to remain happy for life. Food for thought: ‘Man can only achieve little with a heart void of happiness’.

CONCLUSION
Understanding the implications of one’s choices in life will guide one in making good decisions and one of the ways of making good choices is learning from other people’s mistakes, especially ones’ predecessors. Experience they say is the best teacher but it teaches most times with a mark of regret. You don’t have to be a victim to learn; do not complicate your life with bad choice(s).
