The reason for marriages between two women is mostly to bear a child/children that's all.

A married woman who can't bear kids can marry another woman into the family not for her husband but for herself. The newly married woman will sleep with any man she wants to outside and then bear a child, that child will then be regarded as the child of the woman who married her or in this case the "female husband"

My step grandmother was one.
