Nigeria Is A Failed Miserable Country by cronsberg: 5:09pm On Apr 29, 2020
Afternoon ladies and gentlemen. Before I start, let me ask just one question, in your own opinion, is this country really worth living in at all? Or is it really habitable?
I am in extreme regrets and in utter frustration as to why I was born here. And this makes me honestly hate my parents for choosing to remain here despite having the exposure, means and capacity to escape this country for good, but nonetheless chose to stay here believing that things will get better. How unwise they were back then, that choice of theirs back then sentenced us now to a lifetime of frustration, failed dreams, avoidable risks and threats, unwarranted suffering and miserable lifes. My parents failed me, I will make sure not to fail my children.
Since I was born 30years ago, not once have I experienced uninterrupted power supply in this country. for 30yrs it has been the same exact excuse of shortage of gas or low water levels. for 30yrs o. if since the time of my parents it did not get better, why will I believe it will be better now?
since I was born, all I know is all our leaders, governors, chairmen or even councillors we're busy living large in mansions, driving expensive cars etc while 99% of the masses were suffering, and it is the masses that put them there o. what an irony right?
SInce I was born, everything from getting a job, to getting healthcare, to quality education to water has always been impossible. how then do we survive in this country? no honestly, HOW? do people even know that the wealth in which our presidents and senators use in buying those expensive SUV's supposed to be for the masses? do you know that we suppose to go on rampage and revolt because of the suffering we are going through, those leaders supposed to be afraid of the masses not the other way around. do you know it is not normal to praise or go and beg any so called leader? you elected him to actually serve you and your interest. we literally don't know our rights in this country.
If it is about the present day, I believe it is even worse than before. In my location now, they bring light for 10 minutes and off it goes for 4 hours straight then it is back again and the circle continues, such that you only end up getting a total of 2 hours light in 24hrs, mind you the weather has been consistently hot for the past 3 months now. coupled with the lockdown and expensive food in the market, I ask again, how do we survive and prosper in this country?
Lastly, let us not deceive ourselves, don't even lie to yourself like our parents lied to themselves that Nigeria will get better. it will never happen. If you look at the facts, No single power station has been built and put to use since the 1970s, also no single massive public water supply project has been built since then, we still don't have a single standard public hospital in this country up till now. research centers? zero. public schools? zero. is this country really created for humans to Live in? So if all these things are missing, are you honestly not lying to yourself if you think that things are going to be better? Not in the next 50 years, by which time you have already gotten old and your children has grown to find themselves in this same mess. please don't do that to your children. This message is free of charge and I will urge any well meaning individual who loves himself and his future to LEAVE THIS COUNTRY IF YOU HAVE THE MEANS. Trust me, Nigeria has no future. nothing good at least.

I know a guy that sounded even more frustrated than OP and dreamt of being successful in Canada. After 2019 election, a friendly state legislator appointed him technical assistant. I came home from Lagos and we were sharing a beer, I teased him about Nigeria being hopeless and how working in Canada was a dream come true. He laughed hard and told me that Nigeria would be great again because it has the required resources but lacked creative leadership at all levels to reach its potentials at the moment. I smiled, nodded my head, sipped my beer and complimented his wristwatch.

You see, I can only believe OP if he turned down an opportunity to be comfortable in Nigeria and jet out to another country in line with his belief that Nigeria has no future.

For me, I believe Nigeria is nearer the revival of its glories now than ever before. The hour before dawn is darkest.

Lol...this lockdown made me reason like the OP.....it actually dawned on me that over 3 decades as a Nigerian ,i have never really fully enjoyed any basic government provisions like constant power, good roads, security, good hospitals, good schools etc.

Lockdown is a moment of sober reflection,i cant count the number of days ,i go in an out of my house to on or off the Generator,as NEPA(thats what i still call them) kept giving 5 minutes of power with 20 minutes intervals, for like 5 hours, you can imagine the torture.

Just overlook the difficulties , if you dont want HBP...and help your way in making life easier for yourself and family.

Who fails this country?
Your ancestors and mine, you and i also did the same.

Let's do away with religious differences, tribalism, corruption, nepotism and youthful exuberance.

Let's improve on ITs development.
Vocational and skills acquisation for youths.
Recruit and train more youths to battle terrorism.
Scrap Road Safety Commision.
Build 3 standard school of medicine that will admit 1k students each per session.

A lot of things like this dai...

I don’t operate in Nigeria but I still have people that operates there. But you can do something about Nigeria; Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn in his book that brought global awareness to the evils of the Soviet Union (insert Nigeria), said: “It takes just one person to stop lying in order to bring evil down in a society.”

NOTE: Solzhenitsyn was a Russian novelist, philosopher, historian, short story writer and political prisoner. Solzhenitsyn was an outspoken critic of Soviet Union and Communism.

The corrupt rigid system ran by the Soviets was no much different from Nigeria system today, perhaps only different is that Soviet Union was more powerful and have more resources(crude, gold, iron ore etc) than Nigeria of today, but the Union still failed and split into its indigenous Nations.

NIGERIA IS MADE FOR SUCCESS. ONCE THE EXCLUSIVE LIST IS DECENTRALIZED AND GOVERNANCE IS MADE MORE ACCESSIBLE TO THE GRASSROOTS, FAILURES AND MISERIES WILL DISAPPEAR FROM NIGERIA FOR EVER.

This might sound as a shocker to you, but I am a Muslim northerner and it's just now that I realize why biafrans desperately want their own country. It's because Nigeria as it is, is simply not working. Nothing is functioning the way it is supposed to. we were all lied to and deceived. I honestly even regret all my previous comments here in support of this country or believing that things will be better. as I am now, I don't care if everything just scatter finish. all my focus now is actualizing my exit strategy out of here

Your friend's about-turn does not change redefine the facts about Nigeria as a nation and a people. What it does reveal is how fickle he is as a human being.
If you installed someone like him in a place like North Korea, and gave him a technical job such as the one he now enjoys in Nigeria, he is likely to proclaim North Korea heaven on earth too, regardless of the true state of existence for the citizens of the state.

You know Igbo ppl live and travel abroad a lot.
So when they travel and see how things work well outside, they come back and are agitated to be on their own.

This is not a difficult thing to forecast. Does all the things on ground now in present day Nigeria indicate to you that there will be a better future?

My point is that most people, like my friend, who make most noise about how hopeless Nigeria is would go silent if their individual situation changed in Nigeria while situation of Nigeria as a country remained the same.
