What is it like?

Describing the effect of immersion in virtual reality is in principle difficult, it just needs to be experienced. You quickly begin to “believe” in the picture around, be it a 360-degree video shot from the cockpit, or one of the many games. By the way, just for the sake of the latter, everything was started: in one of the main blockbusters of the platform - EVE: Valkyrie - you control a starfighter and after some hour you already feel like an experienced space warrior.

The main minus of the helmet is that only the movements of your head are directly transmitted to computer reality, the buttons on the joystick are responsible for everything else, so there is no complete immersion. At least until a more advanced controller appears.

Only after that you can finally put on the helmet, pick up two special controllers and start the journey through the digital world

The effect of presence on HTC Vive is felt most strongly due to instant reaction to movements and complete freedom of action. In a special VR section of the company’s store called Steam, there are already more than 800 applications that will not let you get bored: from zombie shooters in a dark forest to beautiful spatial drawing programs.

We were most impressed with the relatively new direction of games - Vive Workout, where the game becomes a real workout. For example, in table tennis: although the table, racket, and ball are virtual, all your movements are the same as in the real world, so you will have to sweat a lot to win.

And since the image will be divided into two, the issue of the screen resolution of your device will be very acute, otherwise, you will get a blurry picture with a distinguishable grid of pixels.

What is it like?

The application store is presented in collaboration with the Oculus brand but does not reach it in terms of fullness. Since no controller or joystick is included in the database, the main entertainment with Gear VR is watching 360 videos and all sorts of games in which you need to twist your head and take almost no part. The free application that puts the viewer on the stage of the Cirque du Soleil show makes a pretty good impression - acrobats and mimes jump around.

It’s a completely different matter if you somehow connect a gamepad to the smartphone: in the store, a special section is devoted to games where you are still allowed to shoot zombies. The set of applications for VR is still quite modest, but it is worth noting the high quality of each of them. Sony tightly controls the level of products in the company’s store, so whether it be the horror of the famous franchise Resident Evil or the alien shooter Farpoint, you are guaranteed to experience impressive immersion and curious mechanics that will fully enjoy the possibilities of virtual reality.

Also, many large developers promise shortly to introduce a special VR-mode in their already released games.
