No half sensible individual would ever think verbal autopsy would help determine if cause of death was covid19 related or not..

Especially when there's a huge risk that for every delay, people are getting infected out there. Even covid19 symptoms have been known to vary in some cases.

Everyone knows this..

In this case, how could verbal autopsy ever help ascertain the number of deaths that were covid-19 related when the symptoms of covid mimicks other sickness dat are renown to Nigerians like malaria??

eph12:

Yes, and I didn't state otherwise.

I hope you know verbal autopsy is not enough to arrive at a conclusion in this pandemic?

Like BlueRay once said, without posthumous testing, there will be no way to 100% ascertain if the deaths are Covid19 related or not but Verbal Autopsy does give a clue about what to point to.

I asked that question because of the way you were ridiculing the Verbal Autopsy.

The data they will get from the VA will be used to a certain degree to ascertain the likely cause of death. I’m not a doctor and I’m not sure if I heard Malaria causes shortness of breath, dry cough and the likes.

Ephraim read and understand....

The first step after every reported death is to perform VA.

What about taking some samples for testing in the appropriate labs? No need?

Of course, but you should know most of those that died has been buried already, so how do you get samples for testing?

Unless maybe to want to test their close contacts and even at that, most of those buried are unidentifiable.

What do you think the issue was at the beginning of all these? Instead of them taking samples for testing and trying to nip things in the bud, they were doing mass burial immediately. Does this make sense?

Most of these people that died didn’t die in the hospital. They died at home and were buried in accordance to their religious belief. It wasn’t the government that buried them, it was their people.

It’s another thing entirely if they were dieing at the hospital and no test was being conducted.

The government of Kano cannot be absolved of blame in this issue because large scale number of death within a week shouldn’t have gone undetected.

Of course the state governor is responsible. Every governor is supposed to be at alert because of this pandemic. Nothing should be taken for granted. He has people on ground and he should have swung into action asap

U are not getting it. This increase in total number of death is more like a work of investigative journalism.

Reporters went to Muslim burial grounds in certain areas and the attandant/security on ground confirmed there has been sudden increase in the number of people being buried in the cemeteries in recent times. It's not the state government even noticed. It was only after this report was published that the state government noticed and with few confirmed COVID-19 cases in the hospital.

Most of the people obviously died of COVID-19 in their homes or private clinic treating malaria with herbs or normal anti malaria drugs.

The main issue actually is now that the government is aware, it isn't doing enough convincingly to curtail the situation. The governor is interested in people going about their normal life without the tough decision that comes with a total lockdown, the people who are mostly unlettered believe "Babu Coro" and the elite who have traveled in recent times are hiding in the comfort of their homes without getting tested.

Kano's problem is a sorry tale of an irresponsible governor, an ignorant populace, illetarate clerics, and useless elites all bound together in one tragi-comedy.

Interesting thread. I think people need to do more research about Griffon's claims on coronavirus.

For now, I am sitting on the fence while I research more on the subject.

The Kaduna State Ministry of Health yesterday confirmed receipt of 16 more positive Corona Virus results, 15 of them from almajiris from Kano.

The state has now recorded 50 cases from repatriated Kano almajiris.

That's even with limited testing.

Most Northern States are reporting cases from Kano returnees, and you want us to believe say na Malaria dey worry Kano
