Thank you. Pls just refer to me as Daniel. No need to add “sir” or any other honorable titles. The German in me makes it uncomfortable when people do that. I’m not bigger or better than anyone. Yeah I’m still in touch with ALL my friends and we help each other. But now it’s harder to travel and EURO has increased.
i add the sir to ppl that are older than me. 'ppl when senior me' that me oo

Yes it is free, but you pay a semester fee of about 200-300 euros every semester, depending on the city. There’s a thread about all of that.
Daniel what about clothes are they expensive over there? And also hw are their markets i know they have malls but do they have roadside markets as we have here

Clothes are cheap and expensive but they’re good quality. Germans are not fashionable people so they probably won’t notice if your cloth is cheap or expensive. But they buy expensive clothes from designer shops. To them it’s a normal lifestyle with no show-off attached.

No road side markets here. Everything is sold in shops. You’ll only see things like fruit or hats and small things in front of the shop that’s selling it. Neatly placed. The market here is like Shoprite in Nigeria. You only see street markets on special occasions like festivals or carnivals or specific shopping days.

No it will be bastardized.
It advisable Justwise leave it on the first page of the travel section. This thread hitting the front page will be a disaster, might force the poster to loose interest.

If you’re coming with €8000 blocked account, that should be enough to sustain you before and after you get a job in any city.
If you’re coming by Sponsorship letter or another means, it depends very much on your city. Some cities are expensive and some are cheap. Have enough money to pay your rent, health insurance and food for 6 months, you should be fine. Start looking for a job as soon as you arrive and you’ll get a job before 6 months, unless your village people tie your picture for shrine.

Health insurance is very important cos if you don’t pay, you risk losing your admission and your student status. Student housing can go from €190 to €600 a month, depending on the city. It is always advisable to stay in student housing cos it is cheaper and surprisingly well maintained. If you live in non student housing you could pay up to €400 or €500 for a room.

Food cost should be around €150 a month. If you’re spending more than that on food, then it means elephant put leg inside your stomach. I spend €80 on food. Health insurance is about €80 to €100 for students below 30 years. Once you clock 30, it increases.

Please also have money for leisure and pleasure. I had a Yoruba friend that had €8000 in his blocked account, yet he worked 2 jobs and had another kitchen job to wash dishes. Still, he would never spend money on anything to enjoy himself. When we went out to eat ice cream or drink beer of €2,80 he would complain and tell us to save money, save money. He was so annoying. Don’t be like him.

Transportation is free for students. Your student ticket allows you to take the train, tram, busses for free in your city and other cities in your region. You’ll see it on your ticket. You only pay if you’re traveling outside your region.

So yeah, do the math.

Tribalism and racism can both have the same effect. The only difference is that racism is worse and here’s why....

A Yoruba person may not like igbos and deny them opportunities, while giving it to his own person. But igbos also have the power to fight back and create their own. One group is not superior to the other. They will keep fighting and there’ll be no winner.

A white person or white people have the economic, institutional, financial power to control other races. The white race is also more in number than any other race. That is why they were the slave owners. They control the world. Their passport holds more power, so does their currency. A white person can live in Nigeria and not have papers, yet own companies. But a Nigerian has to pay €10,000 into a blocked account just to get a visa to study. Can a Yoruba do that to the Igbos?

If I go to a Yoruba shop to buy food and they don’t sell to me, I go to another shop. If I go to Germany and they deny me because of I’m black, I go to Spain, the same, France, UK, Canada, where will I go? And those are the profitable places that have the power to make my life better.

You also may not know which part of Nigeria someone is from until they speak or tell you. Hence they can easily escape tribalism. But being black is obvious. They can see color. You don’t have to say anything. Seeing you alone already disqualifies you. Which means your existence is a problem to some people. You can be bilingual and escape tribalism. Even if you’re mixed race, you still face racism.

However they can both have similar psychological and physical effects on someone. Tribalism and racism can both get you killed. Except that racism is on a broader spectrum that affects you based on your skin color.

Also be careful when making friends with international students, especially the EU and Asian ones. You see those French and Japanese people? Handle them with long spoon or they’ll finish your money. Most of them are from rich homes or are sponsored by their governments.

All they do is drink wine and try out the latest restaurants. Their own friendship is to meet in restaurant and bar and try everything in the pot. If you’re not careful, you will finish your money trying to fit in. The day I spent €38 on sushi, I almost cried for one week.

I will not give all the information because this is a public forum and I want to remain anonymous. But before I left Nigeria, I saved my NYSC money every month and managed. I told my friends I wanted to travel, they laughed at me. But I was determined. I got international passport and just kept it, even though I had no means. Getting that Nigerian passport was my motivation every day.

I used my NYSC money to apply to schools. I applied to 27 schools, got rejected by all of them. My money finished. My friends said I was crazy but I didn’t give up. I used the last money I had to apply to another University but I didn’t give it any hope. I didn’t hear from them.

My spirit just told me to send the school an email about my application. I did and they replied. They said they offered me admission and sent me a letter since 3 months ago. And the school was about to resume. Turns out my letter was in Nipost. Stupid people threw it one corner.
I went to Nipost and begged them to look for it, gave the man money. He eventually found it after 2 weeks. Then it was late. I didn’t have money to travel anyway.

I emailed the school and they agreed to move my admission to the next semester. I was happy. Then I started hustling for money and selling property and praying. One rich Igbo man I used to greet and wash his car sometimes, one day he shook my hand and gave me money. I opened it and it was $600. I thought I was dreaming or he made mistake. But it was true. I knew it was God at work.

I eventually got enough money, went for interview, I didn’t know anything or anybody in Germany. Did all my research online every night. I was buying recharge card just solely for research. I did interview and kept hoping.
I was in Ikeja under bridge eating egg roll and drinking coke, when I got the message from German embassy to come with travel insurance. I knew it was visa. All the while, I didn’t tell anybody. I kept it all to myself.

I went on Facebook and joined apartment groups for people in Germany and found a room with some German guys before I left Nigeria. I went shopping, got my ticket. First time traveling abroad, I was sweating like Jackie. I changed my money at the airport. Before I boarded the plane, I went to toilet to sh*t out everything about Nigeria.

I arrived Dubai and took another flight to Frankfurt. Germany was so cold. I didn’t even know what train looked like or how to read signs. But thanks to my Android phone, google maps and translate showed me everything. I asked some people about the train and went to my city.

I used google maps to locate the flat and rang the bell. Met the German guys and they showed me my room. They said I’ll stay for 3 days then they’ll decide if they like me as a flat mate or not. They later liked me and I lived with them. They helped me with everything about registration, bank account, insurance, transport, they taught me everything. They even drove me to buy things for my room. I met their friends as well.
They took me to the stadium for the first time in my life, being in a stadium watching a match live.

I eventually went to my school and my life started from there. I made lots of mistakes and got lost many times in Germany. I suffered o. People used me and threw me out of their house. Even Nigerians. Even the Nigerian church I was attending, they helped me but they almost destroyed me.
Na here we dey today and the rest is history.
What did the Nigerian church do to you? are you still attending the church?

There’s “who you know” in every aspect. They pretend like it doesn’t exist but it does. Even when you don’t feel like going to work, your friendly doctor can give you a sick leave and lie for you. If you know people in certain occupations they can help you get things done by calling their friends on your behalf. Even in cases of visa. They won’t get it done expressly but they’ll make it easier for you. All by the law.

The thing in Germany is, professionals know other professionals. A doctor might have a lawyer friend that deals with immigration, the lawyer might know someone in foreigners office, a catholic priest will know someone in Asylum office, just like that. You’d be surprised what one professional friend can do for you. All coded.
Thank you for the enlightenment

The amount is now €10236, and you can't transfer it back. You open a blocked account and fund it with that same amount of money and go with the funding proof/receipt to the embassy for the interview. It would be used to cater for your needs for one full year. The money will be released to you in bits on a monthly basis (€830).

Let’s talk about mental health. Loneliness and depression is a real thing when living abroad. Nigerians back home always think “if you can survive in Nigeria, you can survive anywhere”. I’m telling you that is not always the case.

I see people say they are not bothered about racism. When you experience it, you will know how bad it is. This is not a case of Yoruba and Igbo vs Hausa. This one is a slow poison that kills you slowly until you have no strength left. You know what it feels like to know that people hate you and don’t want you around? You feel so unwanted and alone.

At least in Nigeria you can turn to family and friends. Here you are alone. Nobody to share feelings with. They make you feel like you’re nobody, no matter how hard you work. It messes up your mental health. I’ve seen a lot Nigerian students who are very depressed. Money is there, food is there, but they’re so sad.

For every stage in life, there’s a level of suffering that follows it. When you’re hungry, your problem is food. When you have food, your problem could be loneliness. And they affect you equally. You’ll realize that you’re not as strong as you thought you were. You lose self confidence. This is why it helps to be around black people who are doing well. It gives you motivation and builds you confidence.

So please, learn about racism before you come here. When you experience it, challenge them. Don’t back down. Don’t smile to make them happy. They don’t care about you. When they say “you’re not like other Africans I’ve met, you’re so nice”, it is not a compliment. That is racism. Don’t let their backhanded compliments fool you. That’s how they control you, by keeping you “nice”.

For the first time since I started posting here, i must say your thread is the best and this post is the realest.

Why are you always sounding like a pessimist? Racism exist in Germany, so what? No country is free from racism and discrimination, just that some are good at hiding it.

So spare us with "there is racism" "you will be discriminated" " the people are unfriendly " bullshit.

Focus on the good side - positive. And if that is hard for you, then don't comment at all. Because it doesn't make sense to me how you always preach and overemphasize about racism in Germany when we already have the full picture.

She shouldn't comment because she's not saying what you want to hear? you're a very selfish person. Do you think some of us don't want to hear the truth before we make mistakes? is she spoiling your travel scamming business or what ?

Yes Frankfurt is very diverse as well. I love that city. Only thing I don’t like about Frankfurt is that people there are very classist and arrogant. People pls understand that racism is not something you overcome by speaking the language and pretending it doesn’t exist. Ignoring racism does not make it go away. And no, you can not live above it. That thought is dangerous.

The issue of Yoruba vs Igbo and Bayelsa choosing their own people is NOT racism. That is tribalism. They are different things. The issue of South Africans attacking Nigerians is NOT racism. It is prejudice. Pls know the difference. Racism has to do with “race”. Black people cannot be racist towards each other.

A lot of black people in Europe suffer internalized racism, they think if they do things to make the white man happy and take the blame for the racism they experience, it will make it better. You can integrate all you want, speak the language, obey the law, kiss their behind and they will still hate you! There is no excuse for racism and it is NOT your fault. Don’t let them guilt trip you.

I try as much to stay away from black people who don’t see racism or who pretend it doesn’t exist. They are the worst. Some of them are married to racist white people. They’re the ones the racist white people are referring to when they say “I’m not racist, my husband is black”, “I’m not racist, my best friend is black”. Don’t be that black friend. Call them out!

If you’re tired of hearing about racism, close your ears and keep living in Lala land. Don’t tell people not to talk about it or that they’re over reacting. The rights you’re enjoying today is because some black people never stopped talking about it. They fought for your right to travel abroad.

With this IQ you have displayed here, you are supposed to be in Top level management but I'm very sure you're still working under someone with a White complexion. Ignore that Ugo guy. He has accepted racism as his fault, such a person will be highly dangerous in real life because he will try all his best to please the White system thinking that he will be accepted more. They will only use him to snitch other Blacks and discard him like a Judas grin

Oktoberfest is an annual ceremony that happens mainly in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. Cities like Munich, Stuttgart, Nuremberg, na dem carry am for head. They wear their traditional German costume and celebrate. It’s basically a beer festival. So lots of beer drinking and sausages and other German food. It’s quite huge. People visit from around the world to experience it.
The first time I went there, I just wanted someone to get me out of there. It was too German for me.
Nö, Oktoberfest is a Munich thing, in other parts of Bavaria, there are similar beer festivals which looks like Oktoberfest, and I personally find them more interesting than Oktoberfest.
