• WHAT IS PRAYER?

Mark 11: 24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

Prayer is making your desires known to the father. It also means to make a strong appeal or a fixed request of what you desire.

This implies that prayer cannot be by thinking, words have to be spoken. It is an activity carried out in reverence by man.

Philippians 4: 6 be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

By prayer and supplication, let your request, that is your desire be made known unto God.

The words prayer and supplication refer to the same thing, it is to make petitions or come before a higher authority with your request.

This was used earlier in chapter 1.

Philippians 1:4 Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,

Romans 10:1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.

Prayer involves verbalizing our desires, to speak forth our request unto God.

Matthew 21:22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

God expects that we make a request, He wants us to ask him.

PRAYER: Today pray for something specific, your desire. Make a request to God in Jesus name!

In Philipians 4:6, it was "Be careful for nothing,..." What does this really mean? Was God actually telling us to be careless, and then go ahead to pray about whatever the consequence of our actions be? I need your articulated response to the above queries.

First the word careful is a poor translation from Greek to English by king James, careful in the original Greek rendering is the word "merimnao" which is rendered in contemporary English language as "to be anxious" therefore it's a state and not an action about to be carried out. So that verse if you check the new king James version is rendered like this, Phil.4.6 - Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
So Paul was addressing the church concerning the cares an the needs of life, if you check vs 4 he said "rejoice always..." so this are believers who are already worn out and who are under pressure of different necessities of life and those were his admonition ...IN EVERYTHING BY PRAYER AND SUPPLICATION... " that's the way to go till you see your expected result.
