Jay z for the culture. That mf is a genius. First hip hop billionaire. Told the story of OJ. Gave J Cole a platform. |

tidalstorm:how bout on a deep lyrical point of view,u know Nas changed the whole way hip-hop was written with the greatest album of all-time ILLMATIC On giving Cole a platform, yeah but we can count lots of MCs who came through both artistes. Nas infleunced d whole game. |

steez69:You cannot deny Jay zees lyrical ability, Illmatic may or may not be the goat hip hop album but it is sure overhyped like tpab and Lauren Hill's miseducation. Many artists though inspired by Nas, doesn't mean he changed the game. I dont know abt artists Nas brought through but Jay z had rockafella(brought Kanye West), now has Rocnation. What i love about Jay z is he's not a crab on barrel. He lifts people up. Nas might have made the goat hip hop album but Jay z has help the culture far more. |

tidalstorm:what's more important?, creating a platform by floating a label OR inspiring people across all boards(by the way Nas has Mass Appeal and brought up acts like Dave east,NORE). Sure Hov is a Better business man no doubt but Nas still got d overall street cred shit. And Hov is a big fan by the way Jigga and Nas haven't had a great track record as the best of pals but it's an undeniable fact that Nas moulded Jay-Z as the rapper he was at his peak. You can chart the change in Jay's rapping style pre and post Illmatic. Prior to the album, Jay was rapping with a vigour and hunger similar to Big L which transformed into the more meditative spitting style that Nas is renowned for. Even in 2009, Jay dropped a line saying: "I had the Illmatic, on bootleg / The shit was so ahead, thought we was all dead" . |

steez69:Jay z had equally inspired people as much as Nas. You'll hardly see a Nas inspired artist not also inspired by Jay z. Jay z has inspired both pop and hip hop artists, from Kanye West, Jeezy, Royce 5.9 to Big KRIT. Mass appeal? Just know that Jay z has sold way more albums than Nas. Just cause Jay z married Beyonce doesn't null his street cred. Thay guy used to sell drugs to fund his studio sessions. Saying Nas changed how Jay z raps is overreaching. That is called versality. Jay z changed accordding to the times. Nas still uses is illmatic flow. Jay zees line on illmatic might be him giving props to the album. But it doesn't mean Nas is better or Jay z doesn't have a better album. |

tidalstorm:To each his own bro but trust me it is what it is. Never argued who sold more albums; album sales depends on your mainstream reach and 'pop-ability' reason why a 69 will do more numbers than a Joey badass. Hov is the real OG no doubt but Esco, maan. I ain't even bringing up their beef story(ether). Appreciate your detailed views bro, would really like to have more convos as to this hip-hop shii even the 9ja scene. Bless |
