What About Coming Together As A Cooperative And Owning A Tractor by Davidkuku(op): 9:42pm On May 18, 2020
I am thinking about a cooperative society of about 50persons who can contribute 350k with the mind of getting into mechanized farming; building wealth together as a force with unity

Are you aware you can get good tractors with 1.5m.Divide this figure by 350k and tell me the result

A good tractor, 35-60hp brand new will cost about 5-6m. And you would need the ploughing , harrowing disc with it.

With 350k each the cooperative can be registered the necessary machine and accessories bought and the left over fund collectively decided on. A tractor of 1.5m is a no no even if it is 25hp. Instead a power tiller should be bought.

The idea behind this trend is to get people to come together an tackle the challenge of lack of enough fund and adequate security in farming by uniting our funds and ideas. I’m a middle class man with limited resources, but I will sell whatever I have to sell to cooperate, if I find this association.

Yeah. It is good to star small alone. But 50 persons would be under utilization to hing on a tractor of 1m that would or could require maintenance or servicing after ploughing some hectares .... A new one is predictable and would keep the hope of an association alive

Start with 2m. Clear 50 acres grow maize it will finance the project. If you don't want to start Small. Lend me that 350k for four months and see what I'll do with it in agriculture

Imagine 50 person owing a brand new tractor with disc plough and tractor mounted tiller and boom sprayer!?
If they are united and they decide on cassava farming for instance:

They would easily prepare the land and get stems from research institutions .
They could plant as much as 250 hectares with the cost of land preparation drastically reduced.
They could achieve cost cutting by procuring planting material cheap as a result of large stem purchase.
They would find it easy to deal with post harvest decisions together- they might want to own a processing plan or supply to big off takers at a go
They would or can unite against security challenges on the farm
They can approach government bodies for loan and or help when situations call for it
They can grow from primary production to secondary because of large volume of harvest
They would provide part-time and full time employment for themselves.
The benefits are enormous.

Lolz. I see. Well, Thanks for your advice. I’m not jobless right now. I have a small farm and I also own a mini bus with which I hustle in Lagos.
A man doesn’t not do a single thing.
Again , studies have shown that there is strength in unity and less stress. This trend is meant to explore other options for people who want to grow their finance through cooperation
