Pan- Yoruba sociopolitical organisation, Afenifere has charged Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, Chief of Staff to the President to use his position to push for the implementation of the report of the 2014 national conference.
Gambari, a delegate to the conference had severally called for the implementation of the report which President Muhammadu Buhari has ignored since assuming office in 2015.
During a public lecture, titled: “Development Resolution: Overcoming Global Conflicts and their Local Interactions,” organised by Ubuntu Centre for African Peace building in collaboration with West African Network for Peace building and Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development in February, Gambari had said that in the face of growing insecurity, killings across the country and loss of confidence in the security architecture, it was important to adopt the many recommendations provided at the 2014 conference, which can be used to restructure policing and promote synergy among police at all levels.
“There is a lack of confidence in the current arrangement. The evidence is that people are being killed everyday. There were recommendations at the 2014 National Conference. We better go and look at it and see how we can have a structure that will take up to the local, to the state, and to the national police that will work together and not one at the expense of the other” Gambari had said.
Speaking on his new position, Yinka Odumakin, Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary said Gambari’s advocacy on the implementation of the 2014 conference will make meaning now if he takes concrete steps as the Chief of Staff.

“Gambari’s advocacy for 2014 conference would make meaning when we see concrete steps being taken on it now that he is the gatekeeper at the Presidency,” he said.

How is it difficult to understand that when it comes to tinkering of the constitution that National Assembly is key. President Buhari can't do much without NASS. Interestingly, while the president can veto anything put before him by NASS, such veto can still be overridden by the constitutionally required number of NASS members.

Afenifere should therefore direct its lobbying to NASS and leave Prof. Gambari alone.

Afenifere calm down, Buhari from onset did not believe in that confab report so it will be difficult for Gambari to influence it assuming he tried to cos I know he wouldn't do such.
