Rgade:GBAM!!! My brother 1,000 likes for you! One hopes they don't damage the priceless natural beauty in the name of building some cheap, cheap cheap structure !!! Our people don't often value natural beauty and think cheap blocks and concrete can equate natural beauty. The way I see people doing cheap concrete floors in their entire compound without a single flower, grass landscaping or aesthetic trees, and they think "bare german floor" is "beautiful". ![]() What has made America and Europe beautiful are the widespread use of grass landscaping, flowers & trees all over their cities and countryside! |

ChimaAdeoye:Exactly, the lack of horticultural detailing in Nigerian architecture is annoying mehn. Billions will be spent in constructing piles of ugly blocks and concrete but no little change will be spared to green up the environment. The highest we will do as aesthetics is an amateurish mishmash of ugly jarring paint. Does it mean that ugwanyi didn't see where else to beautify other than that forest. |

Rgade:You guys should calm, I have been there and he's not cutting down the forest, I think hes turning it into more of a leisure site, so people can have picnics, leisures, and rests there, and I actually think its a good idea, unlike how its been left as just bushes growing anyhow in it, I might not be ugwuanyi fan but I am really happy with what he has done with that okpara square surroundings, you guys should see the mid-section if the road infront Enugu assembly, it has been beautified so much with flowers and fountains that when I pass there I even see young couples sitting there just having a leisure time. But I still think you guys are right, we need more greenery, look at WTC estate, its turning into a concrete jungle, all that beautiful buildings but to just plant trees no free them. Imagine our streets has the same aesthetic as UNEC alone |

My biggest problem with ugwanyi is how he has left Enugu metropolis to rot |
| Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by Nobody: 9:11pm On Apr 23, 2020 |
slimthugchimee2:If the trees are going to be unhurt, then that's splendid. I never had much expectations for that WTC from the start. Why is it that as the years are moving, our development seems to be retarding. If you compare the "estates" we are building today to those of old like zoo, liberty etc you'll see the difference . Compare Independence layout to it's phase 2. The road into the layout is even a single lane. The older Enugu state is getting, the more she is deviating from her original plan and getting more scattered. Who designed Independence layout, GRA, trans ekulu, new Haven etc.. Shouldn't we be doing better the older we get? Or is it corruption? We just do things too shabbily these days. |

slimthugchimee2:I almost cried when I saw potholes developing all over ziks avenue. Imagine pot holes developing on major roads inside Coal city of all places..damn Very soon major structural failure will start occuring on all major roads and Enugu will become one of these cities where you'll be driving inside mud inside the city!! Look at the Enugu onitsh highway Abakpa juction- new market section. That is ugwanyi's plan for all roads in Enugu. While he paves 2km strectches in villages and snaps pictures. |
| Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by slimthugchimee2(m): 9:40pm On Apr 23, 2020 |
Rgade:You are still talking about ziks avenue, agbani road is already collapsing, potholes that can swallow cars are slowing popping up there, and what is irritating me more is the useless man is building pedestrian flyover in a place like ogbete market |
| Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by Nobody: 9:50pm On Apr 23, 2020 |
slimthugchimee2:Hahaha, you can imagine nah I really thought that Sullivan set a standard to Enugu where it would be an anomaly for things to go seriously wrong. Had no idea all it would take was one overweight ugwanyi to make it look like Sullivan never existed. |
| Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by okeyglm: 9:50pm On Apr 23, 2020 |
Even the thread can attest ugwuanyi is a failure. |
| Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by eaglechild: 12:55pm On May 07, 2020 |
slimthugchimee2:What does it take to mend a pothole? Even if he lacks the will to construct a new road, what of mending a pothole. I find it incomprehensible and utterly despicable that a government cannot even mend a pothole on a major road in her state capital. There is no excuse whatsoever, especially as these roads were left to rot right before your eyes. |
| Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by eaglechild: 1:03pm On May 07, 2020 |
Rgade:Very sad indeed A road that runs right through the city I mean the Enugu-Onitsha road /Abakpa junction axis. I guess he is telling himself it is a federal road. A road his predecessor paved and put streetlights on has been left abandoned and unmotorable. Picture if Awka had left the section of that road passing through abandoned, or even Onitsha citing federal road as excuse. I don't see the rationale in abandoning your state capital. |

Digitron:Nice structure. I hope they do proper landscaping of the place and the parking lot, to give it a great ambiance. Many times, We build even better structures than what is obtainable abroad. I have come to realize that what makes our country look so third-world is our lack of proper landscaping of the environment to complement the concrete buildings. We have so much belief that once you build a concrete structure, it it automatically beautiful and no landscaping with trees are needed whatsoever. The result is that even our best structures, Malls, and their parking lot always look mediocre and third world.

Nobody is talking about the nearly 60% poverty rate in Enugu. This thread was very lively during the time of chime. So many things about development were discussed. What happened spyder880 cjraine . Does it mean that nothing is happening in Enugu?. If it were the time of chime that the NBS statistics came out, people would have been discussing about the way forward or have we given up on gburugburu. |

Digitron:Although i am all for development and creating great tourist attractions such as development of a world-class park at the Okpara Square. However, I am hoping that our history isn't being erased by renaming Okpara square to be called "Unity" square. it is obvious that many now see Chief M.I. Okpara as an Abian instead of an indomitable Igboman that invested all his time and energy in developing a capital city for igboland. Tomorrow, they will change the name "Akanu Ibiam" International airport to "United Nigeria" International airport. Erasing Igbo history from Enugu simply diminishes the status of Enugu as Igbo capital. Indeed, this makes Enugu no less important than Ohafia. It's like the first son of a family deciding to do away with the family surname. Again, I am truly hoping that this name change is just another fake news because the implication will be long and tragic for all of us.

| Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by Digitron: 9:34pm On May 19, 2020 |
ChimaAdeoye:The park is to be known as Michael Okpara Unity Park. Besides, there is still Michael Okpara square so I don't see how this is an attempt to erase Okpara's name from Enugu. |

Digitron:What is wrong with our leaders.. ![]() The project is okay but why rename the square. What the fucck is "unity square"? .... Unity of who, Nigeria?Always stressing on a non existent unity. Tell that fat man that what we know is michael okpara square. Did they ask people whether they want a name change? Will renaming the square make it better? No be only unity square, na Buhari square. |

Digitron:Thank you for the updated information. Michael Okpara Unity Park is an excellent name! You know in this time when our enemies are actively surrounding us with militants thinly disguised as "almajiris" and looking for ways to divide and weaken us more. We have to be careful not to inadvertently assist them in their nefarious goals. |

What in God's name is Ugwuani doing by fencing that area close to Okpara square were you have trees. I just hope this guy does not totally destroy Enugu before he leaves office. |

Enugu town don't have water. I saw it first hand during my stay there. They use well water that dries up during dry season, the places that has water board, their water is not constant. People that need clean water buy from tankers who goes to 9th Mile to fetch the water, that what some people drink. Pure water is from Aqua Rapha which is in 9th mile. A gallon of well water can go as high as #100 if there is no electricity to pump water and if they happen to be the one that their well haven't dried up that period/day. |

UncleSnr:True...This is the problem Enugu governors should try and solve. But i won't hold my breadth knowing that our leaders and are not thinkers or problem solvers. |

With the move of the CBN to exclusively deny common businessmen of foreign exchange, while DANGOTE now gets even greater exclusive rights to the country's Foreign currency. The time has come for businesses to float international money transfer services for Nigerian businesses and for Nigerians abroad. TRUST is the key factor needed for Nigerians abroad to trust using this Nigerian owned App for money transfer. Unless Nigerians abroad use the APP for money transfer, the set up will never be successful. So they must be very diligent to avoid any type of Nigerian behavior of mago-mago with peoples' money, else it will not command the confidence these historical money transfer services have. This will help those supporting their aged parents with stipend with a better exchange rate than what CBN offer, , and also international money transfer into the international bank account of ordinary Nigerian businesses who need foreign currency but cannot compete with the Dangote. They can get foreign currency paid directly into their foreign bank accounts when they pay in naira using their local bank accounts through a participating Nigerian bank.
