Its so painful that one has to go to school to study computer science or engineering without learning those productive programming languages.

It is a compulsory course in OAU here for all engineering students, it's now python self since 2 years ago

i think you should speak for your university and not Nigerian universities in general. Moreover the world is moving away from java in my opinion, probably your school is following the trend.
If i may ask what university do you attend? If java is being replaced by languages like c++ or python in your school then i think that is fine.

Pls don't generalize this okay. In my school (Unizik Awka) we study java in 300l and c++ in 200l, then visual basics in 100l

In fact, it is compulsory in all tertiary institutions.
Not only Java; c++, Pascal, VB, COBOL, Data structure and algorithm, databases etc are included in the curriculum

But mind you, the computer science degree can't make you a software engineer, no, it won't. You will need to develop yourself programmatically, lol.

That's why its good for anyone aspiring to study this kind of course should inquire about the school he/she wishes to seek admission. If only I knew but I just had to work on my own to develop myself.

Added to list of bad decision makers.

Well u'd make money in Nigeria writing crappy backends in Java while generating GiB of Logs u don't understand, at the same time needing restart time to time because of maxed out RAM usage. Hehe.

Java is like living in an estate(OOP) your whole life, the day you visit outside world is the day u crash.
Java is what u learn urself, not worth wasting time over in school.
And don't ever learn it as the first. Even BASIC is way way better as first language.

I strongly disagree with u bro. Java is one of the most useful and popular programming languages ever. It may really take nothing less than a century of tech advancement to dispose java off its relevance in the tech world
