Lately I have been speaking with lots of fish farmers and I discovered that most find it unbelievable that a fish can get to 2kg in 3-4 months. I will have a brief lecture. There are so many ways to achieve this
1. Ensure you are working with first shoots, note* farmers hardly sell first or second shoots, so you either pay double the price for it or do your own hatchery.

2. Supplement their meal with good protein extras like blood meal, moringa leaves ( moringa leaves is rich in protein, contains Vitamin A & C etc), cabbages. Make sure this doesn't replace their feed but act like supplements

3. Avoid feeding them bread and biscuit - most farmers believe it's less expensive by using waste bread. You can decide to leave bread for them at night but this shouldn't replace their feed. Bread is only chaff, it can quench the momentary hunger but can't help the fishes gain weight.

4. Constant removal of water - Very important, few farmers understand the necessity of doing this

If you have no idea of what shoots you have,then you definitely do not have the blowers. With these measures, you can only get 1kg in 3-4 months.

I made a feed cuisine that can not only help you save cost of feeding but also help boost fish weight. I call it flaked moringa. It consist of cattle dug, dried blood meal, and moringa leaves(substitutes can be used). It is only 5knaira per bag(* it is compressed) which last a month for 1000fishes if fed morning and night( though this is used as a supplement before feeding- it helps them eat less feed as well as gain more weight). Note be properly guided, this should be fed to Jumbo sized fished.

Well said but I strongly disagreed with you on the second point, feeding them with supplement meal that has blood.
From experience I know that while they battle to feed, they injure themselves and bleed. So if they are used to feeding on bloody meal, they will begin to feed on the injured ones among them. My take.

There was a time I stocked 15000 fishes, I lacked fund at some point, I fed them blood meal every morning( I always changed their water), then fed them feed in the evening, and left moringa leaves for them overnight. I didn't experience cannibalism within any ponds at all. Your fishes learn to eat each other when they are hungry.. Even though you don't feed them with blood meal, once they are hungry they will still find a culprit to eat. If you don't let your fishes go hungry(which you can't achieve with feeding them without other supplement), your fishes won't eat even the dead ones that may have died as a result of infection, provided it is same pond ecology.
