Many state governors have announced the lifting of the ban earlier placed on places of worship as a way of mitigating the spread of COVID-19, Daily Trust reports.

The lifting of the ban is coming few days to the Eid-el Fitr celebrations during which millions of Muslims throng prayer grounds to mark the end of the Ramadan fast. It is also expected that Christian faithful in some states would resume services on Sunday.

The lifting of the ban has, therefore, heightened fears over breach of personal distancing requirements even as the federal government and experts on Thursday warned state government against relaxing restrictions and hasty reopening of worship places.

The President of the Nigerian Academy of Science, Prof. Kalu Mosto Onuoha, said he does not support lifting the ban on religious gatherings as it exposes more people to infection especially where the rule of social distancing is not respected.

Also, ahead of the Eid-el Fitr celebration, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Chairman, Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, yesterday cautioned that it is not yet time for public gathering as the nation battles the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, many state governments on Thursday expressed their readiness to allow worshippers resume normal activities in churches and mosques.

Market is selling without social distancing. Why is religious gathering the problem? At least let the worshippers follow the NCDC guidelines and all will be well cheesy

The problem is that there was never a lockdown.

What we had was restriction of vehicular movements. People still move about from street to street.

For how long are we going to live under the fear of the virus.

Let's device a means to live with this virus they told us has come to stay.

In my own opinion, the covid19 of a thing is over hyped. People who can arrest the situation are not granted the opportunity because some persons see the pandemic as an oil well. If malaria drugs can cure the disease, why not allow people to live their normal lives?

Why is opening of religious centers such a big issues? I went to the market on Monday believing that only food sellers will be in the market and to my surprise the market was over crowded with all sort of sellers and buyers. Even the okrika sellers were not left out. See shouting, singing, dancing every where jammed packed. The greatest shock was, I was the only one with a face mask that some even jest of me calling me Coronavirus and they were even shouting there is No Coronavirus Virus our government be thief. I began to ask myself what is going on? Am I the only one obeying the NCDC rules? Even the public buses are still packing people like sardine and they place their mask in their jaws and forehead inside the bus.
Abeg let us not deceive ourselves any longer, this lockdown cannot work in Nigeria. church and mosque should open jare But let them follow the NCDC guidelines.

The book Atonement is one book you should add to your book list.
