Study after study is now showing that for all the emotionally charged hype regarding chloroquine and its sister hydroxychloroquine's use for covid-19 treatment, its effectiveness is at best marginal, at worst harmful - perhaps lethal.

The latest as published in the Lancet last Friday further confirmed this. When we tried telling folks that science does not work by emotions, political grandstanding or conspiracy theories, we were called names.

For what its worth, all hope is not lost. CQ/HCQ might have some limited use in controlled settings. And indeed one or two patients might benefit. Moreover WHO-led solidarity trial is still ongoing. However the idea of a mass rollout leading to a dramatic drop in cases is more or less forgone.

The take home message is that science/medicine works with evidence, rigorous one at that.
