BIG DAY, SMALL PLANS: Eket couple gets creative for wedding downsized due to COVID-19 Big weddings are out during the coronavirus pandemic Lockdown in Akwa Ibom. So, one bride and groom scaled down their plans when they got married last week. ND REPORTERS was there to see it because the bride and I hail from same community. Glory Nsubong said her friend and husband, Uduakobong Owo and Nsikan Akpan, had big plans when they first got engaged. “Originally they were going to do it up. They were going to have a big church wedding in Eket. Then they were going to follow it with a gigantic reception at Madelyn Hotel," Glory said. "They were planning to do all the traditional wedding things, and also do the white wedding with over 10 bridesmaids and groomsmen. So, it was going to be a pretty big wedding.” With all of those plans on hold due to the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus, the couple planned a smaller – much smaller – wedding at Uduakobong Owo’s family house. But they still wanted to find a way to include all of their guests, so what was meant to be an indoor affair nearly became outdoor event. There was no way these two lovebirds were going to postpone this wedding as the groom really anticipated this event and it was his birth month, so he was excited and wanted it to happen despite the lockdown. "This period was important to me because it’s my birth-week. So we kind of wanted to encapsulate our relationship in my most exciting moments," Nsikan said. Mr/Mrs Nsikan Akpan originally planned to host a large wedding ceremony with about 600 guests. Instead, they had a significantly scaled-down service because of the coronavirus pandemic. MORALS: Instead of postponing your wedding to God knows when this pandemic will be over, take advantage of the situation and spend less. Afterall, MARRIAGE is not actually the ceremony, but the REAL MARRIAGE begins after the ceremony. Once again, Congratulations to the latest couple in town, MR/MRS NSIKAN AKPAN. Happy Married life.
