All these racial craps, people get racially profiled even in their own black nations, either by fellow black man or non black person.

If you go to or work in places in Nigeria where we have white people, you will see how a fellow black man will openly give preferential treatment to white man over black man. You need to kill the inferiority complex in black man, that may be the first step in earning white man's respect.

It's good you educate yourself properly on issues like these before forming misleading opinions.

Racism is experienced differently in Africa than America.
There are hardly any blacks that feel inferior to the white man in America.

The few white people you see in Africa are usually expatriates and as such easily gain access to prominent people here or in prominent places here.

Africans are easily taken by prominent people, not just white visitors. If a politician or a famous celebrity comes around an area, watch as people would automatically be swayed by the persons aura.

You will hardly see a black man born in the USA today feeling inferior to him. They are now better informed of their history.

Ibime, nihilist, afrodoc, chic2pimp, diggz, raumdeuter etc, have any of you guys abroad had personal experiences of racism? It would be nice to share with the group, don't you think?

None that matters, although each person's experience is different, for example, the prejudice in the job market experienced by a fresh African with deep African intonation can not be compared to another person with black skin who has assimilated into the culture/accent etc. I don't know if you will call this racism or rather "When in Rome, behave like the Romans". Unfortunately, many Africans never imbibed the culture and struggled in the workplace, some went home while others settled into menial jobs. For them the prejudice is real.

For highly skilled/ rare expertise like Doctors and some advanced scientists, it doesn't matter whether you assimilate or not. Hence I say in general, the Capital markets of the West do away with the racism that matters cos skills gaps must be filled whether you are black, white or yellow.

When one becomes fixated with racism, he subconsciously starts to hate the country and people he is living amongst, and that person can never do well in life. One thing my father told me as a teenager that stuck with me, he said "he who rejects the land, the land will reject him, and he who curses the land, the land will curse him", and he used this as a parable to explain the economic failure of Jamaicans/West Indians/Akatas as if to say their experiences with slavery/injustice have got them obsessed with injustices and racism to the point they are not at peace with the land and cannot aspire to prosper within it. At some point through my time in London, I found myself imbibing some of these feelings within these communities and had to make a conscious decision to ignore these feelings and start making more connections and friendships outside of our community with people who are economically empowered.

I still remember my final experience that blew away any cobwebs I had of judging people by their background. My whole life I had hated South African whites due to Apartheid and also one South African boy who had migrated to UK same time as me used to call me Kaffir in school till I busted his lip. Anytime I hear that South African accent, in my mind, I would just stay away from such a person until a South African Boer CFO hired me. At interview, once I heard the man's accent, I just wrote the job off. When I got there, no fewer than 4 or 5 colleagues were white SAFIs and they just blew away any preconceived idea I had about white South Africans. Funny enough, that guy was the best boss I ever had, highly knowledgeable without a shred of prejudice in him, only concerned with what skills you bring to the table. He still attended my wedding, and we still keep in touch to this day, even though he somehow decided to move back to South Africa in 2015, although he was meant to be moving to Germany today on Germany's last Covid repatriation flight from South Africa (his wife is German).

So, my experience with the South Africans was the last cobweb of racism that I cleared out from my mind. I find that the issue of racism is more to do with how you remove feelings of oppression from yourself, so you can go ahead and prosper in life. Where I live right now,.I think we have one black family on our street. Most of my neighbours are old white pensioners and we all get on fantastically. At the start of this Covid period, I was the one doing shopping for 3 of my neighbours until the backlog cleared from online deliveries. Even now, they still request fresh bread and fresh fruits when I hit the shops, and in turn when the local window cleaner comes to clean all of our windows, they pay for me. The thought of racism has not crossed my mind for a long time which is why I always laugh when I see people on Nairaland assuming we are suffering racism here. I don't doubt there is prejudice toward newly arrived people in the job market for example, but I must say the UK is a fantastic country.

It's pointless arguing this with you, you drift away from the point, and create your own argument.

I was talking of Africans in general, you are mentioning black people born in USA, and how many of such have you met to conclude that they do not have feeling of inferiority.

If you don't understand the base of my point, you can't drag me into arguing what's not with you.

What do you mean by me creating my own argument??

You said black people feel inferior to the white man and I am pointing out your logical fallacy. You can't just generalize all black people into one category.

Black people in Africa have little to no racial experience to what a black person in America would experience. How you couldn't grasp this logic befuddles me.

For almost all black people in the USA to continue to protest or engage in forms of activism shows you that they are fully aware of their rights and don't feel inferior to the white man.

Such inferiority complex is more common here where people are less informed of the nasty history that transpired in America between the two races.

The reverse is the case. Those born here actually have feelings of inferiority while the Africans prosper more. The Akata born here will go into an interview thinking why will this white man give me job when all he has done is oppress my fathers and forefathers. This builds some feeling of inadequacy and inferiority where it counts - economic empowerment. Eventually they become hopeless and stop aspiring even to go through education because they see it as pointless and are uncomfortable in the white man's world. This is my point I made earlier, that we as Africans while respecting the experiences Western blacks have gone through should not imbibe their feelings and their struggles if we want to make progress in life. The ones that do generally end up in the same situation as the Akata, while those who choose not to take on their hurts generally succeed.

If you come abroad with this attitude of revolt, you no go make am. Most white guys are out to do business and fill skills gaps, they are not responsible for what happened 100 years ago and are not involved with one stüpid Policeman somewhere. Most of our black brothers fail to understand this and tar them all with the same brush, thus shutting themselves out economically.

I said you should tell me how many US born Africans you have met to make your conclusion, no response.
You just make hasty conclusions without any substantial evidence, and to you it seems as fact.

@the bolded, how did you know that almost all black people in USA are protesting? You see why it is pointless hoping for factual/practical argument with you. Also, because they are 'all' protesting NOW, in whatever form they are doing so, that equates emancipation? Bro, if you don't step up your inductive reasoning in your next post, I won't reply.

Solid points made here. cool

Good luck in your endeavors, I'm working towards immigrating to the UK soon. I learnt if you first visit as a tourist, it paves the way to come back later on a business visit of up to 6 months stay and subsequent renewal, how true?

Although I do believe that racism in the United States is much more intense or common than in the UK. Am I wrong in that assertion?

Question you should be asking is where in the USA can I do well? Our people are doing well there from California to New York to Texas. Obviously avoiding the Deep South like Mississippi et al. Even many Naija tech companies like Flutterwave and Paystack are getting millions in investments from Silicon Valley. I doubt those guys are asking about racism in USA. This is where one's focus should be rather than taking on another man's heightened sense of repression.

Hmm. Nice advice. I guess before immigrating, one should know exactly his purpose and destination. Nice talk.

As you can see from Black Panther movie where Killmonger was overconcerning himself with Akata problem and making foolish decisions for Wakanda based on his Akata approach. Leave Akata problem for Akata.

You sound like someone who lacks foresight.

First of all, who is "God"?
You do realize that the concept of "God" was named by humans right?
Just like people name everything around us, the Christians chose to name their own supreme deity as "God". There are thousands of other supreme deities in different parts of the world.

So I ask again, who is "God"?
lol. talking rubbish as usual. cheesy
So if I used Olorun instead of God, does that change the discuss? What exactly is your point mr foresight?

Not exactly. The land allotted to the Jews by the UN special Committee on Palestine isn't as large as modern day Israel.

And you made no mention of the war of independence in 1948, which was when the state of Israel was officially declared as it is today.

I'm not quite sure how any of the things you've mentioned invalidates the fact that Israel was created by UN charter.

Nothing like what you get in America. British style of racism is far more subtle.

When I was younger I was involved in a few rallies against the EDL who would go from town to town to March.

My last rally was in 2012, when my girlfriend (now wife) and I marched into Leopold square in Sheffield town centre carrying placard behind a police cordon, but the Indian and paki boys, simply snuck behind the cordon through lower West Street and beat craze commot some of those EDL mofos.

Edit: it was 2013

Racism does exist everywhere to different levels, but i don't think it is pervasive here. Most formal work settings have systems in place to combat racism, bullying e.t.c which is why when it happens it might be so subtle that you the target/victim might not even notice. Cases of overt racism usually end with the perpetrator getting reprimanded (in some cases severely).

While it is important to stand up for your rights and be vocal if you believe you are being targeted because of your skin colour, in my experience the most effective cure for racism is to be very good at whatever you do.
I have worked with a couple of exceptional African doctors (Zimbabwean Intensivist and Nigerian Prof of Medicine) and they were treated like small gods in the hospital, and just from their excellence were able to lift the profile and respect accorded Africans there.

It is important not to focus on looking for racism but to focus on being the best kind of professional you can be and representing yourself, your family, and your people in the best possible light.
Sometimes people are initially reluctant to engage an individual because of his skin colour but if you prove yourself you can break down those barriers easily.

My profession is a bit different because of the preponderance of foreign doctors. The average white guy here who is racist to the point of not wanting to be attended to by a foreign doctor or uses rude or offensive language to a foreign doctor might just be shortchanging himself.
