Waaleikum sallam warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
Aliamdulillahi as mine will be 5 at sunset today as well.
Insha Allah, it will be 6 tomorrow as there's no intention of breaking it in between.
Aameen to your prayers.
May Allah accept it from us and from you.
I pray Allah to make it easy for those who are yet to commence theirs.
Jumu'a Mubarak!

Salam alaykum warahmatullah

This year's Ramadhan ended last week Saturday, which basically means that the month of Sha'waal commenced on Sunday. The prophet (SAW) recommended fasting an additional voluntary six days in Sha'waal as its reward is equivalent to that of fasting for a whole year.
Alhamdulilah, I started mine on Monday and by sunset today In Sha Allah, it'll make five days of fasting. I have no intention of breaking any day(s) in between the six days.

Have you started yours or do you have the intention to observe it?
Are you observing it consecutively or breaking in between?

May Allah forgive us of our sins and guide us aright.

Jum'ah Mubarak to all Muslims and happy Friday to everyone.

You're not supposed to start fasting Shawwal until Tuesday. The day of eid and the following day are usually not recommended for fasting.
I thought it's only on 1 of Shawwal alone

You are wrong to have started on Monday! Eid celebration is 3 days! Fasting is forbidden on Eid days! So you should have started on Wednesday and not Monday!

There is a difference. Keep lying to yourself.

I have heard this several times and marvel at how ignorant people can be! I have tried fasting without waking up to eat early in the morning and felt no difference.please let's be guided.

My bad; did not fast on Eid day (am aware it is forbidden) but started the following day after Eid (i.e. on Monday) - basic miscalculation on my part.
Thanks for pointing out the obvious.

Oga oooo...so we have a lot of muftis on nairaland....don't just give fatwa that people are wrong to start their fasting on day 2 of shawaal...
we can't fast on d day of eid (no argument about this)...but saying we must wait for 3 days before d commencement of situ shawaal is.......

If no difference then why eat in the first place?
Muslims have guidelines on all their worships, same way we are encouraged to fast additional six fastings is the same way we are asked to wake up to eat early morning, it is part of our worship. And it is not all about food, as we also do some prayers and nafilats

This is wrong as regard to Eid of Ramadhaan, it is the Eid of Ileya that has such evidence. The day of Eidul Fitri is the only day of celebration.
Wallahu a'lam.

This needs a piece of evidence to make it acceptable in the religion. What is known to be correct is that Eidul Fitri is celebrated just for a day which makes the end of Ramadhaan. He alone knows best!
