Nigeria 20% is 100B dollar at minimum. That is larger than Brazil.

I have asked you severally how does Nigeria know what was planted? I bet there are wild estimates.

In Kenya and most countries - agriculture is formalized to large extent. There are many formal marketing institutions. Also for export-oriented crops like Tea, horticulture - the data there is very solid.

Now Nigeria - your agricultural chain is entirely informal - plant some crops - go to the farmer market - and sell them. Apart from maybe shrimps and cocoa beans - you don't export anything.

So how does Yemi Kale estimate the production of plants and livestock? I doubt you have even ever done an animal census. You skip the human census because you're too broke and in any case the data has been manipulated since the 1960s.

obaaderemi:
The countries you mentioned all have agricultural sectors bigger than Nigeria: USA, China, India, Brazil.
Bringing them into the debate is silly and reeks of insecurity and frustration.
Meanwhile, agriculture is 20% of Nigeria's GDP.
And there are more tractors in Nigeria than Kenya.

14-15 floor buildings don't count in Kenya. Most residential apartments are about that height in Nairobi and majority even taller.

Continue to pray for Oil. Manufacturing cannot happen on GENERATORS. You need to sort your electricity mess before any serious profitable manufacturing can happen in Nigeria.
obaaderemi:
Meanwhile, oil prices seem to be defying covid19.
Brent rose to $37 today. By July, it should be around $50.
All the same, it's about time Nigeria relied more on manufacturing and service as sources of revenue.

They hate you cause you're always right! As always there's tractors per thousand though its old from 2000.

Guess who's at 0.446 per 1000 and who's half at 0.244 as expected?

Your boss, RIP, said Kenya has more tractors than Nigeria. He was wrong as usual. What you brought is per capita tractor availability. It just proves how inconsequential your country is. You've got only 14,000 tractors in Kenya despite the fact that your agricultural land is very hard to farm. Go figure.

Asian countries apply on average about 5 times the fertilizer we do in Africa. Nigeria fertilizer application is twice kenya. But as per capita or per acre - theirs is probably the world worst.

Every Nigerian knows their agriculture long collapsed - and what they have is traditional hoe-powered agriculture.

But if you read the stats they churn out - they claim to be about the same level with Indonesia and are better than Brazil. Just think about how ridiculous that sound.

rationalhuman:
Problem with Nigerians is that , they think you put seed and it grows. They Cant comprehend with Idea that India, China, USA produces so much food because they involve science in their agriculture, They are innovative and associate their supply industries with farming.

Their Agriculture universities develops seeds suitable for particular region and climate, They have thousands of Soil testing facilities to decide proper crop and type of fertilizers. There is no way Nigeria can reach to these levels in next 50 years or so.

And yet you see so many Nigerians here trying to compare Nigeria with India and China.

Per capita is everything when you're analyzing unequal countries. Kenya is about half the size of Nigeria. Kenya has about 10% arable land. Nigeria we are told has about 900K - arable land - that is nearly 20 times Kenya - so basically to match kenya - you need 20 times our tractors.

Still higher based on Yemi Kale stats or based on trucks of good leaving Nigeria for the export market - or has anyone seen a ship of Nigeria manufactured goods heading anywhere.

Outside Dangote cement - there is nothing manufacturing in Nigeria that is note-worthy.

We all know you have problems with maths.

We have a large population which we have to cater for. That's where the production is going. Kenya on the other hand, has only 50m and about 45m are poor, with many starving.

But it was more than 100B recently - when you proclaimed your GDP was 500B dollars. Now Brazil agriculture is about 80B dollars. Indonesia is about 130B - then you have giants of India, China and USA.

Nigeria claims to be just below USA, China, India, Indonesia, Nigeria sad smiley smiley , Brazil - then you Pakistanis, Russia, Canadas,

But in the meantime nobody has ever seen a shipload of Nigerian goods except cocoa beans.

You claim to consume 80B dollars of food - and yet you still import a lot of food.

Just how much does an average Nigeria consume? And we know 150M of Nigerians are poor with 100M are Extremely Poor. We also know malnutrition is high as 35%.

And when we are talking figures - I like to paint broad-brushes because the point is more important than nitpicking about precision.

Now you're sending more and more Nigerian into poverty. Your inflation is double-digit - 12-16% - while in Kenya we are playing around 5-6%.

The nflation figures tell you the rice story from Abuja is not working.

The latest report on inflation in Nigeria has elicited reactions from stakeholders with analysts urging the federal government to ensure that stimulus packages get to farmers to enhance the production of food locally so as to curtail inflation, which rose to a two- year high of 12.34 per cent in April.

We are amongst the few countries in Africa with STAPLE FOOD STRATEGIC RESERVE. This way we ensure maize prices never really rice so much.

So for Maize - we keep strategic reserves of at least 10M bags. The idea is for them to release maize to the market when it starts to rise - and to project demand.

We have silos like this all over the country.

As for pictures - how long before you go - Indians!

Kenya manufacturing is second only to RSA in SSA. We export about 6B dollars of good - majority of whom are manufactured or processed in some way.

We export more than 0.5B dollars of apparel to the US alone.

Our EPZ - Export Processing Zones - are nearing 1B dollars in total revenues annually.

And our manufacturing goods are all over Africa - and our manufacturing firms have branches all over Africa.

Pray what does inflation means? It obvious Nigerians are not making more money with the economy in a coma since oil collapse of 2014 - and if annually you're seeing double-digit INFLATION rate - then don't be surprised why more and more Nigerians are joining poverty.

And I didn't even want to split inflation into core(underlying)- and non-core - into food inflation.

In kenya when we say Inflation has rise - it probably means it gone to 6-7% - otherwise, it plays around 4%.

Nigeria still remains one of the worst-hit by malnutrition in the Sub Saharan region, with children and women in their reproductive age most affected. The 2018 NBS Demographic Health Survey revealed that 37% of children under age are stunted, 17% severely stunted and 7% wasted. 22% are underweight and 7% are severely underweight.

Inflation rate is a local thing.
For example, if a loaf of bread in Nigeria costs #100, then it goes up by 15%, it becomes #115. People aren't going to feel it much because it was cheap already.

But in Kenya's case, food already was expensive. Now if it goes up by 10%(your actual food Inflation), then it becomes a problem. That's why you have the attached screenshot.

Somalia for example has Inflation of 4%. Does that mean Somalis are better off than Turks with an Inflation rate of 10%?
You really have a lot to learn.

Cheap is relative. In Switzerland - everything is expensive - but people's incomes are high. A bus driver earns 10,000 dollars a month.

So don't compare Kenya with Nigeria - without factoring incomes. Kenya private in the army earns more than a Nigerian major.

Now I am not sure where you studied economics - but small inflation is good - but double-digit inflation is very bad - and zero inflation is also bad.

It's not some conspiracy that Nigerian are getting poorer and poorer..while Kenya is lifting 10M people out of poverty annually or 1M every year.

The default is to have Statistician head a Statistic body. Mwangi studied BA. In Kenya, there is no degree in Economics. There are of course economists in statistical bodies - but the CORE function is statistical - mathematical.

Moronic version.

Economics is more applied maths. But it good to have pure maths guy churn out the figures.

And have Yemi Kale in TV stations churning out theories. But Yemi Kale is a heck of a manipulator in a super-corrupt Nigeria with a gov that would love nothing but the propaganda of GROWTH and SUCCESS.

As for Mwangi - of Kenya - there was an incident where he is thought to have manipulated figures - and as always it was agriculture - he manipulated the prices and quantities - and we had agriculture shoot from 23-25% of the economy to nearly 30%.

And that was the time Kenya gov was trying to borrow more from Chinese. This was I bet 2015-2017 - KNBS silent re-based the series of economic data. You have to understand the job comes with political pressure to show growth.

Ghanaians do it so shamelessly don't bother with their statistics.

The high cost of living makes nonsense of the pay your people get. That's if they get any pay at all. Compare your unemployment rate with Nigeria's:

2018 6.03%
2017 6.01%
2016 6.24%
2015 5.31%

Kenya's unemployment rate

2017 9.29%
2016 9.63%
2015 9.68%
• Kenya - unemployment rate
Kenya' is busy manufacturing poverty, starvation and slums.
