Oduduwa And The Nimrod (lamurudu) Connection. by lawani(op): 1:32pm On Jun 07, 2020
Oduduwa narrated to his children that he is a descendant of Lamurudu or Nimrod. One thing is therefore certain and that is the fact that Oduduwa was a scion of a royal family that saw Nimrod as their progenitor. The pre Mohammedan royal family in Mecca can be such a royal family. So, we should not throw the baby out with the bath water by saying Oduduwa was certainly not from Mecca. Nimrod was not mentioned by name in the Quran, so we can not say that the Nimrod in that account was put there by Yoruba Muslims. A royalty and his entourage certainly arrived Ife from afar off, maybe mecca and the oracle made that royalty the Oba in Ile Ife. The name of the royalty was changed by the oracle to Oduduwa. Through marriages and other alliances, this new Oduduwa spread his clout over the majority of Yoruba land and became the new father of the nation.

Lamurudu is the way an illiterate Yoruba man will pronounce Nimrod.
