I wonder why the cjn tanko Ibrahim Mohammed is seen as only a specialist in sharia matters.that he studied Islamic law does not mean that he is not versed in other aspects of laws.the constitution has already made provision for the supreme court to have at least one or two judges versed in sharia, civil law, criminal law, maritime, constitutional laws etc.a glance at the profiles of all the judges in the supreme court will reveal that each of them specializes in one area of law or the other.

In the absence of onnoghen, tanko was the most senior so naturally buhari had to appoint him as cjn.I wonder why he is derided and unjustly castigated.

Sharia court is a native law. Native law is what we now call Customary law. There are Sharia courts and Customary courts.

Has Customary Courts advanced past its local structure as did Sharia, to become a regional practice? No!

Lets not continuously blame North for preserving its culture and maitaining it in parallel with the British legacy.

In South we do opposite. We erase our native customs and default to the British legacy. If anyone oppose we label them illiterates and backward.

The man himself is not helping matter, all his judgements are full of controversy, even the judiciary has lost its respect since he took over

depends on what you call wrong judgment because judgment is a statement of wrong or right

He is correct jare.that he majored in sharia doesn't mean all he knows is sharia.before specializing in Islamic law,he would have offered several other law courses. He doesn't even study only Islamic law in isolation.

Sharia law is only recognized in the northern part of Nigeria; that's their jurisdiction and it's not even the entire north.

Nigeria as a whole does not recognize sharia law.

Was he supposed to be pampered for manipulating court judgements and foisting a clear election loser (who is very much aware that he lost) on the good people of Imo state?

I'm expecting your usual gibberish as an APC ultra-zombie. I'm sure you won't disappoint.

Yes but it's under religious/customary laws.

But where these laws contradicts the provisions of the constitution, they become null and void as the constitution supercedes all.

"(3) If any other law is inconsistent with the provisions of this Constitution, this Constitution shall prevail, and that other law shall to the extent of the inconsistency be void."

The constitution is clear about what should count as law that is legaly binding on all within its territory: Nigeria.

It recognises other 'side laws' but will not tolerate a challenge.

A sharia judge is wired for sharia laws; something that is different from constitutional provisions of the land.

The constitution in the subsection that concerns supreme court allows a sharia judge to be in the bench

He is not a sharia judge per se but majored in Islamic law which is allowed by the constitution.it doesn't mean all he knows is just Islamic law

Section 275 clearly and unambiguously provided for the creation of sharia court of appeal. again, judges from here can be appointed straight to the appeal court.I think I have rubbished you here
