Yesterday being June 11 marks 10years since the 2010 FIFA World Cup. This event was the 19th of its kind and it was hosted for the first time by the African Continent.

The spectacle took place in South Africa from June 11 to July 11, 2010. All 64 matches were played in 10 different stadiums in 9 major cities.


The 2010 FIFA World Cup lacked goals as a result of the defensive play by almost every country-side. It had a total of 145 goals, a ratio of 2.27 per match, which happens to be the least apart from Italy 90(2.21).

The competition however had many shocks as well as controversies. How Germany didn' make it to the finals and yet had the most goals in the competition: 16. Surprise qualifications of Slovenia, North Korea, New Zealand, Slovakia, none of which went past the group stage.

Animal right controversies over the plan to kill a cow before every match, high prices of tickets which led to low attendees of black Africans and so much more.


The most shocking moment of this episode of the competition was the final. Spain took the glory from Netherland with an extra-time goal from their very own, Andreas Iniesta, which saw the three-time finalist lose the trophy again.


It was a World Cup to remember!

The low turn out was as a result of FIFA's standard ticket prices. They had to review it after the 2010 World Cup so it wouldn't happen again.
