I hope both adaptations will be faithful to the source materials. We don't want another 'Half of the Yellow Sun' situation.

They may stay true to the source materials but even that may not be good enough.

Books take you into the mind of the characters and tell it all but films skip some details and rely on lots of subtleties cos of their limited time.

Also, there are nuances to writing, insights to the characters and the plot that often don’t translate to film.

Just don't get your hopes too high for the movie adaptation of these books.

It's a great deal for Mo Abudu, Wole Soyinka and Lola Shoneyin. Not so much for Nollywood.

Netflix will probably do a few scenery shooting in Nigeria, then promptly move the development, pre-production, production, and post-production to some studio in England. Furthermore, due to studio location, Netflix will probably end up casting 95% non-Nigerian actors to play Nigerian characters.

I just hope we get to see fresh casts, instead of her regulars.

You're overlooking one very important aspect of filmmaking... film studio facility.

I don't think Nollywood has a state-of-the-art movie studio. I really don't believe it's conceivable to shoot an expensive Netflix-funded film with all the trappings of 21 century filmmaking, in Nigeria. Perhaps, scenery photography will take place locally, but everything else will be moved to a country with a modern, and fully equipped film studio facility.

^^ Unless you want the usually unappealing cinematography synonymous with Nollywood.

Modified: Perhaps poor is not the right word. I searched my previous posts in this forum and I came across the comment I made 8 years ago when I read the novel. The word I used then was "overrated"

I might expatiate later why I think it's overrated.
