Help - My Dad Just Had A Stroke by ntyce(m): 5:11pm On Jun 13, 2020
I'm broken as I type this....
My old man (72 years) suffered a stroke right in my presence yesterday....
So yesterday, I decided to follow him to his poultry farm to assist with some chores.
We were having a friendly discussion and then suddenly he stopped responding to my questions...
I repeated, called his name... He just stood still staring at me..
I moved closer, observed that his jaw was dropping down, called the attention of the workers.
We attempted to move him into the car but he was resisting, telling us with body sign that he was okay.
I pleaded with him, crying that for the sake of us all.
We eventually forced him into the car and I drove almost 21km to the state general hospital where a family friend was already waiting.
The farm is located in the outskirts of the city and I was just fortunate to have followed him yesterday being a public holiday. He would have driven himself and I can't even think of what could have happened alone with just some village farm workers.
On getting to the hospital after almost 1 hr journey, he was placed on some tablets.
He still showed resistance as he refused to be aided to the ward, he insisted on walking on his own.
He that successfully, slept for some minutes and appeared to regain some consciousness, he identified some friends who visited but his speech was slurred.
We agreed to move him to a private clinic and we were not satisfied with the attitude of the workers at the govt hospital.
At the clinic, he was placed on drip and took pap which he also insisted to take himself without aid.
I slept with him at the hospital overnight and observed he had a sound sleep except for periods he woke up to pee.
This morning, he brushed his teeth and had his bath by himself.
We tried having a conversation about what happened but he couldn't say more than 2 words. He requested for a pen to write but he couldn't write even an alphabet.
I had to rush out to cry by a corner as I noticed he wanted to tell me something important.
He kept saying - You and I.....
The doctors initial assessment was Ischemic stroke.
We have gone for the CT scan this morning, result yet to be released.
The doctor said, he might regain his speech and if he finds it difficult doing so, a speech therapist will be invited.
Baba is already asking to go home saying he's strong enough.
I'm just lost as to what could have caused this, he visits the farm only 3ce a week, not a known hypertensive patient, never drank or smoked, not obese.
In all, I still find cause to thank God because it could have been worse than this.
House, I need your advice on the recovery regimen to follow. This man is all I have, my only friend, I'm the first born - only son and I want the best for him same as he wants for me.
Anyone with a proven speech therapist/physiotherapist should get in touch.
Also, your prayers are needed.

Thank you.

Such are the trials of life. It's highly unlikely that he will ever be the same again. He must have been an active person, they are the type that never want to slow down. Thank God you were there to assist him. This is the time you will need to take charge of his health and well being cause he can no longer do it himself. All the best bro, he will recover gradually.

reminds me of my dads experience in November 7 last year, he came to my room and we both laid on the same bed few minutes later I left him in my room to the sitting room to watch champions league, at about 8:20 pm I notice he left my room for his car outside and next thing I saw was my dad forcing the sitting room door open I looked at his face and I knew something was wrong because he has had 2 previous ishemic stroke in the past, I quickly stood up and grab him, my mom heard from her room and rushed out we started by messaging his hand, legs and mouth while he was finding it difficult to talk but I managed to hear what he said and went to his room to get his drugs. everything looked serious I was frightened but as the only man in the house at that moment I needed to be strong for my mom and sister who were both present when it happened. I rushed to get him gum to chew to exercise his mouth but he could not chew or take his drugs. quickly reversed the car and had to carry my dad like a baby to the car because he could not walk. my sister called my attention and told me my dad left leg could not bend but it bend when I got to him. off we went to the nearest general hospital. how nonchalant they were was an understatement. finally a doctor came and asked what happened I told the doctor everything and this being his third stroke. from the facial expression of the doctor and nurses they thought that was the end of my dad but they advised us to take him to the teaching hospital because they don't have CT scan machine and neurologist. all these time my father was murmuring words that I could not understand on a wheelchair. we finally left for the teaching hospital and got there around 12 midnight. he was admitted to the accident and emergency section and a doctor came to look at him and asked him if he could lift his left hand and leg which he managed to do then I knew he would get better since he can move that part of his body. also another doctor noticed his lips was going back to normal. fast forward to the next morning my younger sister who witnessed the whole episode had called my other siblings outside of the state and they started calling. my elder sister broke down in tears and said my dad doesn't deserve this since he has had two previous stroke and was taking his medication with his BP normal. fast forward a team of neurologist checked him in the morning and said he will make full recovery but we need to run a comprehensive test on him to forestall reoccurrence in the future. all the test we did came out clean to the surprise of the doctors to the extent the head consultant neurology said that he was sure my dad had a blockage on his neck and asked we run a carotid Doppler on him which we did and the test couldn't find any blockage in his artery. all these time my father was stuttering serious that I had to be answering his phone to the extent my sister said I should give him the phone she wanted to hi. my father could not pronounce his grandchildren names and started crying. after six days in the hospital he started walking gradually. we were discharge after 12/days in the hospital, those 12 days was hell for me not because of me being the only one taking care of my dad but because of the number of person that died in the ward, it was a daily occurrence to see or hear of someone had died in the ward. fast forward to now my dad had 4 month of physiotherapy (twice in a month) now he is back to normal driving, walking and exercising but his speech(60%) is not that all perfect now the doctors said overtime it will come back to normal. he was placed on aspirins, cholesterol drug and his bp drug. according to what the doctor said that why he had reoccurring stroke was as a result of blood clot which his previous doctors didn't put him on the right drug combination to forestall any issue of stroke.
In a nutshell I think God loves my father a lot for him to have had 3 stroke and survived it even the nurses said so considering his age 76.
poster I will advise your dad stays in government hospital because they have specialized doctors than private hospitals. also if you guys can always tip those nurses especially with money they will provide better services for him. I wish your dad a speedy recovery and God gives you the strength to take care of him especially in the hospital because taking care of the sick is not easy at all

Thanks bro, I'm already optimistic that it will end well.
Thought if transferring him to a Fed Medical Hospital but we are worried about covid, some cases have been identified there already.

My mum has been very strong, even tougher than me.
She has some underlying health issues and I don't want her to stress herself.

I have been trying to get him talk, it seems it's about activities on the farm. We have asked not to think about the farm operations as I have arranged for this.
I even asked if I should resign my job to take charge of the farm but he said no.
He can't even write again....
Yesterday, he could hardly hold a pen, was just drawing lines.
Today he wrote E and F. Can say No and Yes audibly.
But he forgets words....
I do feel he's rushing himself too much, I told him to be patient until we get a speech therapist.

Currentlygrown:
My father died.

It was devastating. I’d never wish the death of a love one to anybody — including my so-called enemies.
He had two partial strokes prior to the stroke that led to his death.
He wasn’t even old. He was only 57.
Admittedly, he has had his rough share of ups and downs, several business deals that went south, I’m talking deals that would have landed him hundreds of millions, these things eventually took a toll on his health and fast forward, he began experiencing really high blood pressure due to excessive thinking.
Gradually, I watched my father before my eyes become detached from the family.
I was young to understand what was happening, but I knew somethings were especially not right.
My mother — God bless her too, because I know it was definitely not easy putting up with my father, I know he had his faults, but then, at least there should be a certain point when wives should realize that the husband needs a break.
My father’s finances started dwindling down bad and it got to a point where whenever he was paid salaries, the banks would deduct a chunk to facilitate the loan he took from them.

There was no food in our house. Indomie was a luxury.
We drank garri with yellow rice. At a point, my siblings stopped going to school because of the shame that they’d send them back home and everybody would be surprised because; of course, are these not Mr. So-So-So’s children? How can they be owing school fees?
Nobody knew what we were going through in our family. Everybody thought we were doing okay, but we pretended.
One morning, he went in the bathroom to take his bath as usual, this was just after another quarrel with my mother on not being able to provide one thing she needed or the other, and in the course of bathing, she heard him scream very loudly. She rushed into the bathroom and found him sitting on the ground in an unimaginable position, helplessly, with tears in his eyes.
She said he refused to allow her touch him, upon how profusely she begged. She began shouting for help and soon my elder brother rushed from the room to help her.
They lifted him into the vehicle and headed straight to a hospital. When they got to the hospital, the doctors quickly administered drip and certain medications to help stabilize him.
My father could not recognize any of us at a point. In fact, something very scary happened, he began babbling on and on like a child, saying different incoherent things. My mother began weeping, my siblings present weeped uncontrollably, I ran outside to weep the most.
It was almost as if he had lost his mind.
The Doctor eventually recommended a brain scan which we almost flew him to Enugu to conduct, but because of his health condition, we concluded the flight would be too risky. We eventually paid more than we were supposed to in a particular private hospital for the scan. It was revealed that he had a blood clot in his brain. My father began mediations to dissolve this blood clot.

Truth is, gradually he became better, he started recognizing people, his face straightened, but something stayed the same. His right side was paralyzed because, according to the doctor, it was his left side of his brain that was clotted. Impatient with the slow rate of recovery with modern medicine, and the fact that my father was the kind of man that right from his childhood, hated relying on people for help on anything.
But his hands were tied. He would always watch in shame as my mother would wipe his butt after defecating and urinating on the adult diaper we used to wear him. He managed to feed with his left hand but it was highly inconveniencing and always made a mess whenever he was done. At a point, we lost patience, we decided to start treating him with native medicines like so many people were advising. Harry came, said he knew this powerful medicine man that would make the stroke disappear before two days, Dick came, he too said that there was this church, that once you paid this amount, the pastor would lay hands on you and instantly you would receive your miracle. We did all these but to no avail. He eventually started treatment with one of these native medications and I can’t even say if things were getting better or remained the same.
Two years later, one cold morning, just after his shower, my father died.

May the souls of the departed rest in peace..

Thanks for the concern..
The speech has improved, no longer slurry.
Only issues now is saying/expressing certain words.
He can say some sentences without hindrance.
He still mix-up names of people.
Still having a bit of difficulty in reading.
Most things he reads out are based on previous knowledge.
He however can recite Al Fathia and few other surahs unhindered.

In all we give thanks cos it could have been worse.

Amin, kindly ensure he goes for regular check-up.
There are tests that identify stroke risk factors.
And that he gets sufficient rest.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dad, but if don't mind and believe this, you can place your dad on stemcelltherapy, it work like magic and you're free to ask your doctor about it, it's cost effective, no side effects and speed recovery, I don't want it to seem like I'm advertising it, please just find out about it and thank me later, but only products from phytosicience that was made from Switzerland, because we have some fake stemcelltherapy going around right now.

That's how it look like in picture below
