There is a new development on the case of the incumbent Governor of Edo State. He may have just lost all his hopes to re-contest for the Governorship seat of the Edo State as fresh information contained in a Petition document was released by the All Progressives Party, APC. Prior to this new development, his Governorship Ambition was tied to defecting from his current party, the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples’ Democratic Party that had their doors opened for the incumbent Governor to contest, under the Party Umbrella, before the news that was contained in the Petitioned that was released by the All Progressives Congress, shattered the whole Plan.

data.Inside the petition document, it was clearly stated that on the order of the High Court, the incumbent Governor of Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki must not be allowed to contest for the forthcoming Gubernatorial Election of the Edo State, under any Political Party in Nigeria. It further states that, any party that fields such a disqualified candidate, Godwin Obaseki will be fined under Section 31( of the Electoral Act.

You are wondering why the case of Godwin Obaseki has metamorphosed from Fire to Frying Pan? It is simply because of the following reasons:

Governor Godwin Obaseki contested for the Governorship Position under the All Progressives Congress in 2016 and he won. Behind his victory, it has been uncovered that he intentionally submitted false Affidavit to the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC on the 12th of July, 2016, so as to pave a way for his ambition to become reality. Is offense is contrary to the provisions of Section (5) and (6) of the Electoral Act. The whistle was blown on a suspicion by the Peoples’ Democratic Party that the Affidavit that Godwin Obaseki used in 2016 was false. Thereafter, the Peoples’ Democratic Party decided to take the case to court, to confirm if the Federal High Court, in Abuja truly gave Godwin Obaseki the Affidavit in 2016.

In response to the enquiry, the Federal High Court replies that the Affidavit that Godwin Obaseki holds, does not emanate from the Federal High Court of Justice, Abuja. Thus, the High Court orders that any Political Party that nominates such a disqualified candidate will be fined.
