Remind your students that using the .NET framework ties you to windows. Mono is a nice workaround but not good enough.

Lol, I’m sure you are either an outdated programmer or you are an upcoming and not informed enough to understand that Microsoft technologies is now multi platforms.
Please don’t forget to subscribe to the channel for further updates. You still have a lot to learn sir!

I am a C and C++ programmer not a .NET programmer I am outdated yes because I don't know much about the .NET framework.

Look into .NET 5(Available Nov 2020) if the interest is in .NET Framework, . NET 5 which is open sourced and supports most platforms.
Previews already rolling out, The future is .NET 5

Bleep Microsoft products. I've had enough of them.

Bleep .Net only thing I love about c# is syntax. I prefer learning Java, Rust or Go. Microsoft products are all wash.

You are not a software engineer bro. You don’t know about technologies and I can tell by your response lol.
It’s okay just try to get more Inclined with technologies and any programming language and when you become a pro, you should come back to read this your comment and laugh at yourself lol. smiley

Rubbish. I don't care about technologies of course I am not a software engineer, I am an aspiring computer scientist who believes in independent programming (writing programs without worthless libraries) because I said Microsoft is wash you are vexing ha.

No vex naw. I was just saying you don’t sound like an engineer cuz it’s really not about the language. Java is same thing as C# and can both build whatever. All Server side languages have similar purposes.... to build a back end so it’s really not about languages anymore, it’s about what you can do with it. That was my point tho

The language does matter. No mind me I was just vexing abeg but I don't even prefer Java (heard C# is faster) my only problem is that .NET is not that easy to understand and worst of all its hard to understand what is going on behind (this was true back then, had a hard time understanding the Common Language Runtime and even thought that it compiled code straight to machine code) took me sometime to understand it.

Which one do you now prefer or is easy for you?

Java is easier but I prefer C#. Don't really like it though, but it has a shorter learning curve. C# has too many keywords (some are worthless self what is the difference between const and readonly) and knobs that takes time to understand but at the end it is worth it. For example C# can be used in game development (Unity which is getting better by the day), Web development, application development and many other fields. But Java is much more inclined to application development (not sure about this though heard they have an OpenGL library which C# doesn't have hard support for SharpGL is there though)

Lol, you really think Java is easier than C#. Java is easier until you get to the advance part of it and you’ll almost run away from java lol. I am very proficient at both languages and trust me I wouldn’t advise a beginner to start with java because java is not friendly when you get to the advance part of it. You have to be super good at it to walk through it because you would come to the reality of interswitching platforms even in java because it doesn’t only consist of OOP, you’ll need to learn functional programming, work with data formatted (xml/Json) and many things you never heard of. On the other part, C# is almost similar but everything you need to get thru C# is provided in the .Net framework couple with a big community as well.

And talking about key words, don’t even get me started lol. Java got so many keywords as well and the main difference between const and readonly is the same difference between var and dynamic. They both does similar things except one would be called at compile time(var/constant) while the other would be called at runtime(dynamic/readonly). Difference between compile time and runtime is that:- at compile time, you have explicitly provided the data to work with and for runtime, you don’t know what data to work with (probably something a user would provide). Similar to using dynamic SQL.
Anyways, before I go so deep, the main point is, no keyword is useless at all, you gotta have a good grasp of the technology enough to know when to use which of these keywords.
smiley wink cool

Which Language is the best when it comes to speed? I was writing a music player app recently with python. The app is kinda slow. I heard Java is faster than python.

FORTRAN remains the fastest language in history, but it’s outdated. When it comes to Object oriented programming, C# has been proven to be faster than Java YES, C# is a better programming language when compared to Java. ... C# has a really nice lambda support, Java has it, but less sophisticated; C# is less bureaucratic than Java, you write less and get more; C# allows inline use of anonymous classes, Java does not.

And so many more....
