It's sad that in 2020 other countries are talking about ground breaking achievements in medical biotech research

New energy discoveries

Space research

And new discoveries of archeological finds

But Nigeria is shamelessly showing the whole world her stupidity

Imagine this headline ? Other countries will be sourcing the internet to see which countries are catching up in terms of being a world power but they will see this NONSENSE from Nigeria as usual

Nigeria gives Africa a bad name

Earlier this year before the Covid 19 I was in Kenya and Rwanda and I can tell you Nigeria is far behind these two nations

These are progressive forward thinking nations that want to do away with the western stereotype of Africa being backward and depending on western nations but Nigeria just keep dragging the continent backwards..

Nigeria has nothing to show for in the last two decades save for internet penetration which allowed her citizens to start troubling the world with cyber crime .

The worst part are the disillusioned youths who are a generation of drug addicts, hippies and care free delusional consumers

Nigerian youths don't care about reality, facts , morals or doing the right thing

They just want to eat here and now and fûck away their future.

The irony is they curse the past generation for wasting away their so called birthright, but look at what is going on today ...

The coming generation will have nothing but dust to inherit

Nigeria is doomed .. at this point it may be best this nation divides because at the rate this nation is being bled , the resources of the south would be used to enrich and build a Dubai in the north then after the south is bankrupt trust me the north would agree to a division by then southern Nigeria would be poorer than northern Sudan

This is my fear

Tell that to a section of the south that refuses to understand.

It affects everyone and everyone is to blame

What has any part of the south done to show they are forward thinking ?

The only state you can compare to the north in terms of infrastructure is Lagos

They make you afraid to love freely in the north so you don't see the massive infrastructural development taking place ..

You are restricted to where Christian's stay and you assume the whole north is under developed

Everyday one keeps reading about the country and it's keeps deepening the depression.

It is a shame on Nigeria's leadership and followership that we are unable to provide direction for ourselves let alone lead.

NNPC and its affiliates are the real moneybags without discipline. NNPC has never known anything; the refineries have never worked full capacity; they've never known how much fuel we consume per day, etc

Truth is nobody trusts the government because of the ruling party's passion for lies and smooth propaganda.

Shame. Depressing really.

Actually, fuel consumption was much higher than that under GEJ. NNPC had the same issues measuring fuel consumption then as it does now.

All in all due to subsidy.

Also, GEJ left office 5 years ago, the population has grown, and people still buy cars, generators. Fuel consumption ought to go up.

How did you know?
Re: Mele Kyari: Fuel Consumption, Smuggling Gulp 54 Million Litres Per Day by Nobody: 7:14am On Jun 18, 2020
This story is very poor, misleading and confusing; all you had to say is either fuel smuggling gulps a certain amount: daily or say Nigerians consume a certain amount of fuel daily. Makes no sense to lump them together because it tells the reader nothing.

64 billion to rescitate kaduna refinery with no success..was anybody sacked after that? Wasnt the job technically scoped well before spending that money? Nigeria is a failed state. I feel so bad.

Here is the reason why smuggling happens.

In Nigeria, fuel costs N123.5-N125 per liter, with a subsidy in place. In Benin republic, fuel costs N336 per liter. In Ghana, its N301 per liter, in Niger, it is N350, and in Ivoiry Coast it is N385 per liter. Cameroon sells fuel at N419 per liter. I could go on..

So, it is far easier for your local marketer to smuggle fuel across the borders, and make a big profit selling it there.

That's why subsidy has to go, and marketers have to be the ones controlling the price of the fuel they sell. NNPC inclusive.

Also, NNPC is spending billions on refinereis without result because they are a government agency. As a result, they have no incentive to make profits, no matter how bad they are doing, they can just request for more money. Making NNPC private would end all that, they would be forced to work for their money, and their refinereis would be working in days.

The truth is, the government introducing price controls and subsidies is the reason why we have issues with refieries, and issues with smuggling. But because removing suibsidy and allowing the market determine the price has always been very unpopular (the GEJ admin tried it in 2012, and faced severe protests, Buhari only was able to get away with a partial removal because everyone could see at the time that the treasury was almost empty due to very low oil prices then)...government keeps a subsidy in place.

You won't allow the government control the prices of what you sell, if you were a businessman. Why are we allowing them control the price of fuel?? Is Cameroon, Benin, etc richer than we are?
Buhari actually remove ALL subsidies on fuel when he became the president. Our Naira had been devalued since then while the maintained the old price and thus smuggled in subsidy again.

Why do you think the FG reduced fuel price from N195 to N125 during this COVID-19 period?

Our fuel is not actually really truely being subsidised!

Bunch of thieves, was this not one of the reasons you people told us that the boarder has to be shut down? So where are they smuggling the stuff to?
Why not open up the boarder then, and let good stuffs flow in as the fuel flows out? Then we know that at least the mass will enjoy the good stuff flowing in rather than let some set of thieves keep enjoying... it's not fair

sell the nnpc many fools said no no no...sell nnpc to a foreign white company and let it run like a private IOC..let recruitmemts take place without federal useless character but based on competence. No private company will have the guts to walk into the north to explore oil in the year 2020..

Ought to go up up by over 100 percent ? Daily fuel consumption under Jonathan was 26 million litres and it jumped to 60 million litres a day within 24 months of Buhari assuming power ..See that growth was a result of corruption in buharis secret corrupt subsidy regime

As long as there is no subsidy, it can be 100M litres per day and there won't be any problem! Presently, there is no subsidy, so it means we are supplying our neighbors and some people are making profit.

For four years Buhari denied the existence of subsidy while his corrupt friends where enriching their selves in his secret corrupt subsidy regime and that corruption was responsible for daily fuel consumption jumping over 100 percent under Buhari..

You say there is no problem as long a there is no subsidy ? Lies !!! The laws of demand and supply now govern the price of fuel and as long as the Nigerian Economy keeps bearing the punch of demand and supply of other west African countries because of smugglers Nigerians won't get a fair deal in what they pay for fuel and that includes you

That's a lie. Under GEJ the highest was about 30million per day. Even the senate chairman said subsidy was an average of 511bn per year then compared to 1.1trn last year. Read the op before commenting.
I also don't know what you mean by population has grown. You mean babies also consume fuel?

Very weak, specious, and lame presentation by a supposedly GMD of NNPC -- too weak!!!

Even weaker and more disturbing is the fact that all those fat buffoons in their hundreds collecting fat amoral checks every month as legislators have got nothing upstairs to ask smart questions; profer even smarter ideas/resolutions.

What a shame of a country!

Same govt has said they're not paying any subsidy with the current price of 125 per litre so your argument is baseless.

It is easy to smuggle fuel across our borders because or customs is corrupt and incompetent.
Arms are also smuggled. Same with herdsmen. It's a border control issue not petroleum issue.

So long as government is setting a price, there is a subsidy.

As for smuggling, removing price controls won't stop it, but it would reduce it.

I don't really get you. Do you mean I should believe you over what govt says?
NNPC is the sole importer and they said based on the current price there's no subsidy. Besides, indomie for example fixes price as well. Same with telecoms. Does that mean they also subsidise their prices?

Stop thinking in one way bro. Your argument will be meaningful if marketers were also the importers. NNPC is the importer so can set market price just like telcos do for recharge cards. Or have you ever seen a recharge card dealer setting prices higher than those announced by the telcos?
If NNPC says at the prevailing market price there's no subsidy, there's no reason to disbelieve that except you have facts to the contrary.
