The heavy rain pour on Wednesday was accompanied by heavy lightning strikes, strikes that killed three officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps deployed to the Ogun State Sector Command.

The officers were reportedly struck by lightning at their office in the old tollgate, Ilese, in the Ijebu North-East Local Government Area of the state.

We learnt that the incident occurred around 10am when the victims were planning for the morning parade.

We also learnt that there were about 10 officers at the scene when the incident took place.

The Public Education Officer, Ogun State Sector Command, FRSC, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident to the public.

The PEO however said the cause of death of the officers was not yet ascertained.

She stated, “So we were informed, but my sector commander, Mr Ahmed Umar, has just gone there to find out what really happened.

“I cannot give any information until he comes back to brief us on what really happened. The sector commander is presently there in Ilese.

“When he comes back, he will tell us what really went wrong. I can’t just start talking, because we don’t really know what happened, whether it was lightning or something else.”

Our correspondent called Okpe back around 6pm, and she said Umar was not yet back from the scene of the incident.

She promised that they would investigate the death of the officers and notify the public in due time.
