Do We Own Smartphones Or Do They Own Us? by atheistandproud(op): 1:30pm On Jun 19, 2019
DO WE OWN SMARTPHONES OR DO THEY OWN US?
Phones have been around for decades now. They started out as the clunky GSMs of the late 1990s that were only good for calls, SMS and a few games. Famous among these was the Nokia 3310 (yes I owned one). Then came the more advanced internet enabled Java phones. Most came with a camera and allowed you to save photos, videos and audio. These were revolutionary at the time. Soon symbian and blackberry phones came to dominate the market place. These were more functional and more advanced.
Then came the smartphones, the iPhone and the android, especially Google’s android. After a few shaky turns, smartphones have become the most functional devices ever. Do you need music? They got you covered. Wanna check your mail? Upload a photo? Apply for a job online? Watch tv or listen to the radio? Read or write a book? Type? Do art? Play high graphics and resolution games? Learn how to cook or drive? Do research? And much more? Its got you covered. In fact, instead of talking about wehat a smartphone can do, most researchers are thinking about what a smartphone can’t do.
With each update or upgrade, the functionality of smartphones increases and so do their influence over our lives. Where you once had to carry a truckload of CDs, DVDs, books, documents, manuals, consoles, bibles etc., you can simply fit them all with space to spare inside a device about 6.0” in size. This has made our lives easier but has increase our dependence on these small devices.
In 2019, the world has gone global and online. Do you want to talk to your family and friends via text, voice or face to face despite time or distance? You can pick between Facebook, WhatsApp or Snapchat. Wanna keep up with the Joneses, Instagram and Twitter are there. Need the answer to any question, Why not ask your Google assistant? Anyone without a smartphone in this new world will be left behind. Vital and information news will fly by and you’d have no inkling of what had happened.
In 2019, people now base their selfworth on the kind of phones that they have. Lots of people have checked into rehab due to smartphone or internet addiction. Others have developed gaming or email addictions. An increasing number of people have become insomniacs as a result of excessive smartphone use. A survey in 2017 found out that 90% of people could not go 10 minutes without looking at their devices and that 40% of people spend over 4 hours daily on their phones. 95% of teenagers in the US, prefer texting to face to face communication. People have lost empathy and consideration for others because they do not see the effects of their words on other persons over the internet.
Our smartphones have come to define us more than we define them, and it is a trend that does not seem to be stalling anytime soon which begs the question: “do we own smartphones or do they own us?”.

The worst thing is that phones make closer people feels apart and people that are far away to be closer.
Amost every one can't do without their phones within 2hours.

It is the new monitoring spirits in town.
