UI and UNN are acclaimed best universities in Nigeria and shouldn't be doing such.

Glad Unique Uniport and the Malabor republic aren't here

Failed system but in actual sense Universities are right because they should be autonomous.

Jamb recommends, it is now left for university to admit..

Jamb has no right whatsoever to tell any university who and who not to admit.

You can only see such nonsense in Nigeria not in other civilisation.

On a serious note Jamb should be scrapped.
And so you feel that it is correct for a university to deny admission for those who scored above 286 for medical school yet give admission to many who scored 206?

It is done in almost all our public universities

Mehn, this JAMB registrar is a real thorn in the flesh of Nigerian tertiary institutions and their greedy administrators.

That is the Registrar for you and I can see him going higher, because he brought in focus, discipline and decorum,a leadership abilities that is lacking in today's Nigeria.
A place that was being used before as Kalokalo and filthy of super-corruption is now returning Billions to Federal cover!
He is a Role Model of highest order and one thing you also noticed is ability of today's JAMB in admitting her errors and correct where necessary. Then, there is hope for a New Nigeria.
Shame to other institutions like NNPC!

I got into Unilag without knowing a soul. Lay your claims please and let's see. If you hit the cut off, not Jupiter can stop your admission.
2005 was the year, first year post-Ume was written, UNILAG was the first school to advocate for post UME, because of that I chose the school, the then VC Prof. Ibidapo Obe was a guest on an NTA show hosted by Adesuwa Onyenokwe, he spoke glowingly of how they want to weed out the era of students being admitted with high scores and mess up academically when they finally get admission, I fell in love with the man and the school, I wrote Jamb that year, chose Pharmacy UNILAG and scored 252, cut off for UNILAG Pharmacy post UME was 240, so we all sat for the exam, there was about a thousand of us, we wrote in UNILAG staff school hall.
The post UME was graded over 100 and there in the hall, the then Dean, (God bless him wherever he is now) told us that it's survival of the fittest, first 100 merit, I was glad because I was sure of myself. I gave it my best shot and scored 65%, highest was a guy from Enugu State, he scored 68, the result was posted on the Pharmacy faculty at Idi Araba. Yuocan imagine my happiness, finally I would be admitted to the acclaimed school of 'first choice' and was even assured by the faculty staff that no Jupiter would stop my admission, but my brother to cut the whole story short, admission list came out January 2006, my name was not on it. I fell sick bro, I was depressed.
There was one man then in the faculty his name is Mr. Egbe (God bless him too) he saw me the day I came to check why my name was omitted from the list and took me to see the Dean, the Dean brought out a list and showed me the recommended list from the faculty as against the released list, my name was number 13 on that list. He told me and I quote him "My son this was the list we sent to admission office for admission, but we are seeing a different list from what we sent to them, sorry son, there's nothing I can do, if you want I can give you a letter of recommendation so that you can go and buy supplementary form and seek admission in any other department"
I didn't look back, I never went back, next year I chose Uniport, scored 260 in UME and 344 in post UME, today I am a Pharmacist that graduated from the University of Port Harcourt.

The story is not complete. That of Nigeria Police Academy is actually understandable.
They advertised that, second choice candidates could actually apply through their form last year. And alot of them got admission on the school portal as second choice.

This came very late as alot of them had already accepted admission offered on CAPS in other institutions thinking they would not get POLAC. And once you accept, you can't effect change of institution back except you go for Change of admission letter as a student of POLAC which means JAMB regularisation.

JAMB is also at fault. 2nd to 4th choices of institution are deceptive and confusing. Why not leave only one choice for the candidates so they can know where they are heading to?

This jamb registrar is just acting like a saint here. Do you people know these students that were changed from medicine , law, pharmacy and nursing to other departments at University of Nigeria Nsukka were admitted last year December?

If he is upright as he claims, why didn't they change people when jamb registration was still on? Everything was done a week to the lockdown so there won't be any blow back. It's not fair on the students here. Forcing students to accept the new course isn't a solution. Jamb oversees Universities right?

For me, a refund of school fees is a better option. These students will lose two sessions haba

Regarding the university of ibadan, the cutoff mark for human nutrition was 61.8. And if she scored what she claimed as aggregate she would have been admitted.

And if by any rare occurrence she wasn't, she should have forwarded her complaint to the admissions office.

UI operates the most transparent admission process I know
Please do not give me that gist. Don't defend them, they are as well guilty

Yes there are such cases and there will always be, but it doesn't invalidate his submission which I agree with in totality. No centralised system can work in an environment full of diversity. Yes the country education system is bastardised but we still have standard differential among the schools. So Abuja cannot be admitting students for all schools using unified yardstick, it won't work! Give schools autonomy, let them admit candidates they want and innovate. Jamb should simply concentrate on testing then hands off. Schools should determine their admission yardstick including cutoff mark and all. That's if we want to grow and develop our educational system anyway.

May God bless you with that your submission. I don't know why Nigerian youth have misplaced priorities: putting cat before the horses. Yes schools make mistakes in the process of admission and some candidate will be admitted via man know man method, but it doesn't equate the damage being done to the system by the centralised system where Abuja dictate everything including who to be admitted and how. That kind of over-centralization in a diverse country where school defers on merit and standard breed such indifference attitude to authority and also stunt growth and innovation.

Same thing happened to me in 2018. I applied for Civil engineering, School changed me to management tech.; Caps notified me, I accepted the admission on Caps(management tech.). Later on, the school changed my admission again to Industrial mathematics but with some reasons.
Their reason was, my subject combination(Eng, math, phy and chm) didn't tally with the course they initially offered me, so they have to change it.
So I'm currently studying Industrial mathematics, while my Caps is currently reading Management tech.
Hope it won't affect me during my NYSC?

it will because your jamb admission letter will indicate management tech while studying industrial chem. so bro, you will be forced to go for jamb regularization. Hope you accept the admission on jamb CAPS

My sister had 223 in Jamb, 64% in screening yet was not given admission despite the department cutoff mark being 50%. Checked in with a lecturer and discovered she was recommended for entrepreneurship. SMH. Who needs a degree to be an entrepreneur these days.

This here.... Is the warped mindset that has made scores of people lose precious things in life... You should have asked around before rejecting the course... It's one of the courses that have the most promising futures in the next decade... It's akin to business administration... But it's more focused

You really should have consulted guys you know in the startup/entrepreneur world... It's a very promising field I guarantee you.

sir, we are Nigerians and we know the the trend - eni mo way lo mowe - the fact that you are admitted on merit does not mean that others are rejected despite the fact that they merit it. My sister was given admission in OAU purely on merit and I have helped someone to print both result and admission letter who scored 197 and was admitted to study LAW, I repeat LAW.
So, you can't fault someone who has a first hand experience. My own admission was purely on merit (through pre - degree) but I know someone who is far below cut off mark and was admitted for medicine because his dad is the the director of pre degree study.
Na Niger we dey. Thanks

I agree with full university autonomy only if
1. Universities would be wholly private funded
2. They wouldn't use quoter-system in both admissions and employment

When the two points above are not in place, it's impossible for the Government not to come in to moderate excesses (many times created by the government itself)

Of course, many things are wrong that it becomes impossible dictating which party should initiate correction measures.

I used to be a lecturer in a public federal university , so I understand why the universities want full autonomy. But I also see the injustices perpetuated by the university system in terms of admission of students and employment of staff
