Sinistami:I should be asking you that question. This is from the post.and I quote below. After moving the motion for independece in 1953, Anthony Enahoro proposed that a secession clause should be incorporated into the future constitution of Nigeria so as to give legal backing for any tribe to peacefully exit the forced union if it feels marginalized in future. According to Enahoro, such provision in our constitution would instill in all Nigeria's future leaders the fear of the consequences of misgovernance. But Azikiwe, speaking on behalf of Igbos, rose against him in the parliament and labelled him an agent of disunity, and enemy of Nigeria. I ask you again now that you know I read the post,Did Zik wake up from his grave to oppose Yoruba and Hausa people that wrote 1999 constitution from inserting secession clause into our new constitution? Why must you all continue living in the past when you can make tomorrow better? |

There's no doubt in my mind that this is the real history. These are facts. I took my time to read this to the very end. I don't normally do that. I've always suspected Igbos must have done something terrible to this country for them to be treated like this. Thank God I came across this thread. This is the gospel truth. In my 27 years on earth, I've always thought the Yorubas are the problem of this country for always endorsing these aboki people, but I was wrong. Truly, Igbos were and are still the problem of Nigeria. For goodness sake what was Azikiwe and all the igbo leaders thinking? How can you have several opportunities to destroy this contraption by the British and not take it? Worse still, you carried out a coup against aboki people? It's written in the holy books that children will suffer the sins of their father, this is the case of Igbos. Someone said why was seccession not captured in the 1999 constitution? The answer is opportunity comes but once. Azikiwe had every opportunity in the world to give the Igbos a better life, but he kicked against any seccession plan by the Yoruba and the abokis, simply because he wanted to show the British how loyal he is. WHAT A FOOL! The Igbos have lost their chance, nothing for them again By the way... So it was the British that just sat down and drew map for us and grouped them into subregions? SMH. I always wonder how Kwara state is North Central. Kwara state and a large part of Niger state are no where in the middle. Benue state should not also be in the middle, it is more in the south east. In fact the only states in the middle of Nigeria are FCT and Nasarawa State. All the other middle belt states were just forced into the middle. Plateau state is called a middle belt state simply because there are more Christians in the state than there are Muslims. Every thing about Nigeria's foundation is wrong. From the map to the leaders. Having said that... Nnamdi Azikiwe and all the early Igbo leaders have betrayed their generation simply because of their selfish interests. Una never see anything. Nice one OP and more of this type of thread. |

Shortly after the 1914 Amalgamation of the Northern and Southern Protectorates, it started getting clear that the country was bound to fail as the amalgamation in question was done with colonial fiat without the consent and consensus of the different tribes which were over 3000. I think this is the main issue. Every other tragic event that has happened in Nigeria was as a result of this amalgamation. All I have read in this post has given me more admiration for igbos, all.i have seen from your write up is an example of how igbos try their best to always make the best out of a bad situation, we did not join this country together, others did that we simply did and still.do what we have to do to survive. Others are having their turn , so be it. If Nigeria will remain together for the next thousand years ,igbos will still be here, and if it will not survive the next couple of years. IGBOS WILL STILL BE HERE. |

Reminding the Igbos that they're the architect of their problems just to make them loose the moral right to agitate for BIAFRA doesn't really make sense to me. They know where they did wrong to themselves and where others did them wrong, but that's not the issue here. The issue here is that they don't want to be part of the Country again; they want Biafra. So reading their past history to them just to make them feel bad doesn't make any sense to me. |

Nigeria was designed to fail from onset. It's so unfortunate that OP systematically outlined the misdeeds of Igbos in Nigerian project while praising others. Which means that Igbos have never done anything good to the country and that they deserves the state they are in today. Good to notes the role our fore fathers played while colonialism was still in vogue. But then the OP should also know that two wrongs can never make things right. However, OP did not acknowledge the wantonly destruction of lives of Igbos in the North even when we were yet to regain our independence. Anyways, mark this day, that a time will surely come when the tide will be in favour of others. Nothing lasts forever as its known that the Easterners were once in control. Today, it's the north! But who knows tomorrow? The basis of our existence from all indications is questionable. Unless we restructure the country, things will continue to go wrong. This is not the time to apportion blames but a time to think out of the box on how to make our lives better on whether to divide in peace or remain as one in pieces. #think about it |

Ojiofor:So you expect the northerners to put secession clause in the 1999 constitution when 'no secession' turned out to favour them? Only fools will do that... Azikiwe fought fiercely against 'secession clause' while Ironsi and Ojukwu doubled down and even fought against the first secession from Nigeria with the myopic thought that Igbos will dominate the political scene of Nigeria which backfired and put the northerners in the position of power...now you don't expect the northerners to play a fair game in the 1998 constitution and include 'secession clause' when the table has turn against the Igbos. The Igbo leaders made a grave mistake by creating the loopholes which the northerners still exploit till today so much of the blame still goes to them. You don't get to blame your opponent for hitting below the belt when you did it first but missed...You should learn to take responsibility for your actions and the resulting domino effects. |

alasane:How to know that all of the above is nonsense? No Igbo man has led Nigeria since 1966. Where is Nigeria today? All those who said 'Igbos did this' and 'Igbos did that' are the same people who have been running and ruling Nigeria since 1966. Where is Nigeria today after their 54 years of "we can do better than Igbos"? Where is Nigeria today after 54 years of no Igbo man governing Nigeria? No where. They couldn't do better, they did even worse, so they have to keep going back to what happend in the 1950's and 1960's in the hope that nobody will remember that they are the ones who have messed Nigeria up since 1970 the war ended, and they have been running Nigeria straight into the ground Lol |

Eddy000:You just sounded so helpless,so in 1959 there was no northerners in Nigeria to oppose it or did they support it then? Continue to blame Igbos and ignore your present who are the Fulanis.Zik must have been too powerful to overule everybody in the house .Only delutional fools will believe that.People who doesn't have the guts to face their present and future will cowardly blame some deadmen and the past for their woes. What did all powerful Awolowo and Ahmadu Bello did when Zik opposed secession clause? Was Zik a military dictactor that overuled everybody in the parliament and decreed that, there must be no secession clause and Awo co and have no option than to accept without putting it to majority vote as it is done everywhere in a democracy? You are too afraid to call for contitutional reform rather you will blame someone that died 24 years as if the constitution was written on stone. The so called 1959 constitution that Yoruba and Fulani alliance made invalid since 1967 through 1979 to 1999. You mentioned about the table turning against Igbo, what about Yoruba?does it mean Yoruba doesn't matter in the political equation? |

alasane:My Instinct, didn't disappoint me. When I saw the write up, going through some few lines. I have some words of advise for you and your tribe (1) The Igbos are not your problem in Nigeria. (2) Face those who are against you. You know them ( Abiola won an election, but wasn't allowed to rule), Awolowo, was disgraced. (3) With your size of population and presences in this government, push for the amendment of constitution, so that everyone will remain in their region. (3) You can as well, relocate en mass to the South East., buy land and establish your business the way the Igbos have done here, so that you too, can influence things over there. Stop wailing |

What you failed to understand is the survivability of the Igbos. Very soon when elections becomes credible, you will know that there is nothing like the North! The North appears United due to rigging but electronic voting will end that nonsense and that's why Bubu refused to sign the electoral amendment Eddy000: |
