Didn't Napoli give Juventus a good run all the 4 years Sarri spent there? If not that Juventus is in a class of their own in Italy, Napoli would have won at least one Serie A.

Pochettino in Tottenham....

14/15 season 5th
15/16 season 3rd
16/17 season 2nd
17/18 season 3rd
18/19 season 4th

Sarri in Napoli...

15/16 season 2nd
16/17 season 3rd
17/18 season 2nd
18/19 season 2nd

Please which of the two coaches did better?

No other team won the Serie A with Sarri in charge of Napoli, bar Juventus. And we know that Juventus are in the class of their own in Italy.

Don't rubbish someone because, maybe, you don't like his brand of football.
I thought u would have noticed Sarri didn't coach Napoli for 4 seasons, that 18/19 wasn't it last season where Sarri coached Chelsea?

https://www.nairaland.com/5971541/why-when-did-start-supporting

I know that In Europe where football is cultural, many football fans support their clubs due to both their locale and most times heritage. But for us here, there must have been some unique reasons why we chose to support our club over others.

Ibime, timbros, hensben, nihilist, larride, blueraydick etc. What was your major reason for supporting Chelsea?

Celestine Babayaro.

I am a "leftie" (and left footed when playing ball) so I have this natural love for left footed players...

In Atlanta '96 my best player was Celestine Babayaro. And when, a year after our Dream Team victory, Chelsea signed Babayaro, I just start following the club.

Although in that late 90s, we don't have DSTV or other cable TV to follow premiership week in week out like today, I have this big bros that don't miss any edition of 'Complete Football International' and 'International Soccer Review' full colour glossy magazines. That is where I get all my updates and happenings in the world of football. NTA then have a program every Saturday evening "Weekend Sports".... I don't miss it for anything.

That was how my support for Chelsea started until gradually we started watching games live in big hotels that have cable TV...

What can we do than to pray for him, not to 'Rudiger' our position on the table tomorrow.

Well Bayern aint going for him, so maybe Madrid but it looks like he would pick Chelsea as it ia rumored he wants to play in EPL, but apart from that he may pick Madrid.

Well he has Germans in Chelsea, Rudiger and Timo his reported friend, and Christensen speaks German as well as Pulisic who made the move and it's been good. Players like this will help him settle and Lampard self with the way he has handle players Havertz may just settle down well if he signs.
Do u think the fee would be in the €70M range?

I'm a leftie same as you and settled on Chelsea same year (1997) for the same reason (Babayaro) although I had been leaning toward them that season already due to familiar players like Zola and Gullit. Also my grandad was a Chelsea fan and was asking us who we are going to support, that he supports Chelsea. My brothers picked Liverpool and Arsenal, I threw my hat into Chelsea the minute Babayaro signing was announced.

Edit: Sarri left Napoli 2018. He coached 3 seasons there actually.

Good point but here's the thing Poch against all odds took Tottenham hotspurs to the champions league final and that feat deserves a lot of credit .
His team overturned defeat to Ajax and beat Manchester city on their way.
I don't think SS Napoli made it pass the Quarters all through his tenure.

PS : I was a fan of his style of play at Chelsea regardless of those heavy defeats.

The UCL Final against Manchester United was the first game I supported Chelsea and it was from there the relationship started. I remember I was in Jss 2 and the all the boys in the class backed one of the two teams to win. I think the pain of losing bonded me to the club grin

What is your definition of big intense games? Let's start from there. Then we can compare Sarri's big intense games in Italy vs Pochettino's big intense games in England.

There is no way we going to compare league games like that cus napoli in England facing teams totteham has to face will end up behind Everton at best while totteham will do better than napoli in Italy facing the same opponents. So let's use UEFA competitions instead

At napoli's peak under sarri how did they dare compared to totteham?

i hope he is not going to start jorginho if he makes the mistake to start him. Then tommorows game will be more of comedy than football.

And how did you come to that conclusion?

If you want to use UCL then look for Napoli vs Tottenham that is Sarri vs Pochettino.

Why is UCL a yardstick to compare both coaches? Why will you use a 13 match competition (that is if you make final o) instead of a 38 game league (where you must play all the teams twice) to compare coaches?

Because both teams qualified to compete at the biggest league in Europe and if one goes all the way to the final, he would rank higher .

No.

There are coaches who went all the way and even won UCL but cannot be named among elite coaches. E.g our own Di Matteo. Also Avram Grant went all the way to the final and was a spot kick away from being a UCL winner. But can you name him as an elite coach?

My point is, compare Sarri and Pochettino in their individual performances in the league where they play week in week out season after season. There is where their philosophy/brand of football will show more.

The discussion started with Sarri being rubbished because of lack of achievement. I was the one who brought Pochettino into the discussion to show that 0 trophy don't make one a failure.

I think the UCL is a common ground to compare. That's the biggest competition in Europe

Celtic have been carrying their league for the past four seasons. Going by your ideology, Ronny Deila, Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon are far far better than Sarri

so the quality of players Napoli could afford to use to play in their league should be ignored when considering that Tottenham has the capacity to field players who can competite in EPL.

Comparing manager's success rate based on league performance is more accurate than comparing them in a competition based on odds where a team could face Madrid, Bayern and Ajax and then PSG in R16 while another faces Lyon, Arsenal, Sevila and then play Dortmund.

Napoli have their own tough opponents or should I say their own evertons, wolves etc

you should the best and most elite club in a league but if you compared a Celtic manager and a Bayern manager that comparison would be more accurate.

If you don't have talented players in your team in UCL competition forget tactics you will lose

yes I do if it doesn't even reach €80m or €88m

It reminds me of how united are deceiving themselves of paying 50m Dortmund have told them clearly €120m, even if a miracle where to happen it would something like €90m plus add on of €40m

Oboi, e don tay you begin watch ball oo. shocked
1996 wey I still dey primary school.
Anyways, as everyone here knows already, na mourinho make me settle on Chelsea.
The mourinho of 2005 was a very different beast to what we have now.
There was something about his charisma and arrogance that rubbed off wrong on the establishment and to top it off, he was immensely successful. That moment the person you hate the most is winning directly in your face. cheesy
Another factor was the presence of black & African players in the team. A notable distinction between us and manunited then.

Anyways, when you say "leftie", apart from being left footed, do you also infer it politically?

Started supporting Chelsea around the same time. 2006 I think, was in SS3. A friend who was a Chelsea fan always told us in school how Carvalho made one sliding tackle from behind today and how he made a goal line clearance tomorrow.

I was curious and really wanted to know who this Carvalho was. Unfortunately, my parents were quite strict and I found it difficult going out of the house to watch. We also had no TV(Deeper life things) so I couldn't watch at home.

Gaiined admission in 2007, left the house and finally got to watch this Carvalho. So its safe to say Carvalho turned me to a blue cheesy

Indeed, at that time, carvahlo formed a very solid partnership with JT at the back that gave us the best defense the EPL had ever seen.
