If he doesn't know the origin of the document or what bank it is, if he wasn't expecting any form of payment then it's obviously a phishing email meant to extract your information. I once used a phishing page to get login details of a guy who hacked my brother's Facebook page. I suspect that it is nothing more than a phishing email.

My advice is to ignore it completely. Don't dare click any link or submit any form.

He confirmed it's from the bank. Should he still ignore it ?
