I have a system of 2.4ghz
When it’s not connected to light, game lags
Would I be correct to think it’s from the processor speed

ok the problem u have here is not actually the proccessor but your usuage set up ............you set you computer to manage your battery thats why it reduces its speed and graphics when not on power but when you plug in it uses all it energy ..... to reset this right click your mouse from desktop click on graphics then check through it or go to settings and power management thank me later

what is the graphics card of the pc, is it using two switchable graphics?. you should set the graphics settings power management to maximum performance, not to maximum battery, under the graphics adapter panel or settings. and your pc power management, battery settings should be in balanced profile or high performance, not power savings, when plugged in charger and when on battery power

apart from that 2.4ghz processor speed, your system can turbo boost when you are doing a heavy cpu intensive task to as high as 3.2ghz, speed depending on your system model and specifications. it is possible to increase or overclock processor speed, a process called overclocking but it depends on the system model, and it has its own risks
