we have a Nissan xterra that has been going strong since the past 8 years now. never visited a mechanic since the past 2 years.
the only thing is that the fuel consumption is high, but the car has served and is still serving.

Xterra is by far more rugged that rx 300. Nissan xterra is an all time off roader and has no basis for comparison with rx 300. Rx 300 is a luxury car.

From your requirement, I can see the terrain where your father stays is very bad, then go for the 2004 xterra. Don't compare Xterra with RX when you're talking of off-road. RX is not meant for that, it's just an elevated saloon car, xterra is a true offroader. The parts and mechanics are available.

A 4runner, 2000-2002, Pathfinder 2000-2004, infinity QX4 could be in same price range but are out of fashion now. If you can see a way of increasing budget, get 2003 4runner for him too.

Op the 2007 Ford Escape suits your budget.
Considering the terrain he lives in the escape will perform well.. Parts are affordable too, compared to the Lexus.
N1.7m will get you a good one.

the pilot is very good, doesn’t have that leg problem at all. Car served me very well

Very true, that helps it to send torque to the correct wheels in cases of slippage, so that the car doesn't get stuck. I am quite familiar with the VTM-4 system on an Acura MDX which shares the same platform with the Pilot.
